I am a Gold (their top one) card holder in Thai airways FF scheme. I have enjoyed the perks which included a free 1st class round trip to Thailand last year and one more free business class return later this year.

My Gold status expires at the end of this year and after that I think that I will just go for the best value flight I can get.

Travelled Wold Traveller Plus on BA last time courtesy of airmiles saved up with Tesco clubcard points , and previous trips airmiles .

Still got to pay fuel duties , etc, but worked out at £320 return . Now trying to collect Tesco points for next trip - hanging around in Tesco car park all day looking for unused slips what people throw away . A good hobby . :Oops1:

Wish the Pattaya hotels would take airmiles .

You can be on the right track and still get hit by a train .

I'm with Thai as well (Royal Silk). Only on silver at the moment but it gives you an extra 10kg luggage and priority baggage. Am getting close to gold (hopefully this time next year) and as I fly with them most of the time anyway it makes sense. They also part of Star Alliance.

I am a FF with Etihad. I first flight with them was December 2006. After my 2nd flight with them in July 2007 I was upgraded to Silver which means I earn an extra 25 per cent airmiles each time I fly with them. My 3rd trip was Christmas 2007. My 4th flight with them will be in July. And I plan to fly with them again in December and that will be my 5th flight with them. After 5 flights I should have earned enough airmiles to get a free flight from Manchester UK to BKK in 2009. :Party1::Oops1::Cry3::Flying::D

So in 2009 I'll have more money to spend on beer and the girls

I'm gold on EVA but the benefits are not that great apart from the lounge access and the extra and priority bags, you don't get much more, I'm also gold on Virgin Atlantic and their FF, Program is a lot better and much more benefits, shame they dont fly direct to BKK.

Yeah, I must admit to hearing the same things regarding the awards on EVA. Considering they fly direct to BKK, that was a massive plus for me, and they are well priced to other airlines.

I flew with Etihad a few times in 2005-06. They we're a excellent airline with a top-class service. The only downside to them is the stop-over

Great for Manchester flyers, though

Thats a great time to take it mate. I was looking at xmas flights but the price has really put me off. I used to get a flight around at the start of the year for around £450 to £500, but nowadays, your looking at £700 to £800

Star Alliance aeroplan - a good plan from Canada. Every 3rd or 4th trip is freebie. It works for me.

silver member EVA - for me 100000 miles is free trip to LOS - that is 7 trips for me to earn - already use one free trip around year ago - need 5 more for next one - lately the price of the ticket is getting unreasonable to afford - for me over 7000 miles plane ride - wish I live closer

Gold with American Airlines....just missed Platinum at the end of 2007 due to a cancelled flight but they put me on Thai in business class and it cost me nothing....except the miles. I stick with AA as all my miles are with them and I do like them. When I book discounted flights through Best Travel Store on AA I sitll get the miles, or if I fly JAL, they are a partner with AA so I can get AA miles instead of JAL miles. Being Gold or higher means I don't have to pay the baggage charges they have instituted on checked luggage.

Also, just for you other AA flyers, there is a not well known program where if you fly 20,000 within a 90 day period you qualify for Platinum status. Best to call the AAdvantgage department just before your first flight that you may take during the 90 days and ask to be put on the Platinum Challenge program. Great deal as you can just about get all the miles on one trip to LOS. If you are on the East Coast of the USA and you go through Dallas, you get almost 21,000 miles so one trip and you got it.

As an aside, I used to be married to a reservations person for AA and my first couple trips to LOS I flew first class on the 777s on AA. Cost me....dont freak out...$191 and change one way from the US to Japan. Had to fly coach from Japan, but piece of cake. Business class was about $75 one way to Japan and back. Man, divorce is hell BUT I am glad to be rid of her AND I can get the miles now which you don't get flying as an employee spouse.

I think I joined every single mileage club that flies from here; unfortunately, it's never the same airline twice when it comes time for fare shopping! Plus, those code-shares really break up the mileage that should be going to one airlline.

Man, I think I will just end up subcribing to 1000's of magazines in the long run instead of having enough banked up at any one airline. My AA miles are sold, and it was only a fluke they had part of one lowest fare, but just once.

Might be hard to get a free flight over Christmas.... don't know bout Etihad but with most Airlines its quite difficult to find free seats during peak seasons....

Read here http://www.thaiair.com/Royal_Orchid_Plus/S...us_benefits.htm They don't mention the annual Birthday award which means that you can take a flight in your birth month for half the normal air-miles, very useful. Only Gold Card holders get this birthday award.

My experience with them has been good. Also if your gold card is with Thai or another Star-Alliance airline you can use the lounges on any Thai internal flights as well. The extra 20kgs luggage allowance is a great bonus to have. Hope that this helps.
