Jet airways decent?

People's thoughts on jet airways. Any good? Or not recommended? I've looked at flying from heathrow with them, seem decent stop overs and very reasonable prices

Have only done the Delhi-BKK run on Jet. There are some negatives which are not really Jet's fault: Delhi airport is a shithole, the Indian passengers concept of queuing is more of a contact sport, and you'll be thoroughly inspected on the ramp, just outside the aircraft door, getting on the plane at your Indian stopover, x-rays, unpack everything, colonoscopy (kidding...) Typical Indian queue getting off the plane as well.

On the positive side, the flight crew is very attentive, meals good (for coach flying, that is), and some pretty stewardesses. Aircraft is decent, not great, not terrible. Staff does try to please.

One short an positive story to tell: flying from BKK to Delhi one night. Delhi is socked in by fog. We circle for 2 hours waiting for the airport to re-open. No luck, and we're getting low on fuel. Divert to Ahmadabad, land at 1am, airport closed, and customs has gone home to sleep. Jet manages to recall customs/immigration staff and has the entire plane of 200 people cleared through customs in about 40 min., bus us to a very nice hotel (quality of Page 10 or LK Ren), where there's a full hot buffet dinner spread waiting for us. In the morning, hot breakfast, bus back to airport, and flight to Delhi arrives around 11am at the domestic terminal (no hassle with customs again!)

Thus, all expenses paid for what was essentially a weather delay. Would never happen in the US. Especially for coach travelers.

Done it twice from UK.

LHR to Mumbai

The airport is shite. Found a crumby smoking room inside a bar and nearly got fleeced 8 dollars for a beer. Just stood in the smoking room ignoring the rude bar staff (as it was a public smoking room).

Apart from that the flights were ok. Won't fly with them again as there are much better 1 stop destinations available.

It's been a few years since I've flown with them but great value, great service. Mumbai airport is bearable, for a short stopover, if you tell anyone who asks for a tip to fuck off. If you're a smoker, head to Celebrations bar (not the lounge) near gate 1.

Emirates are also great, although £150 extra (worth it) to fly from a local airport. Great service & head to The Hub bar (near gate 22 if memory serves) for a smoke, pint of Stella & a passable English breakfast.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'm still deliberating. For the record the stopovers I've looked at are only 2 hours so I shouldn't be to bothered by the airport

They airline it self is fine, descents enough planes, entertainment, food and staff all good for the price.

The problem I had was with the other passenger. Some of the passengers were unbearable. No regards for other passengers or safety of the plane. One tit ws on his mobile phones whilst taking off.

And the airport in Mumbai is a joke, shittest and most unorgaonised airport I've ever been to. (and I've been to some shitholes).

But saying all that I'd still use them again if a cheap deal came up. 15 hours of pain on a flight is worth it to get back to pats. Not so fun on the return journey though!!

Oh and don't worry about the 2 hour stop over, you'll be queuing most the 2 hours.

As has already been mentioned, the Airline itself is pretty much spot on. It's the complete wankyness of the airport staff in Delhi and Mumbai and some of the fellow passengers.

I think I went through Mumbai on the journey there, found where I was meant to go and joined a queue, got to a point where a (I think) security guard was, looked at my ticket pulled me out of said queue and pushed me in the direction of a desk where they took my ticket, scrapped it and gave me another ticket and told me to fill in a tag and put it on my hand luggage. Before I joined the queue again in which women went into some kind of tent while men had to stand on a platform to be scanned. And when I say queue it was groups of people walking forwards and if it didn't have some sort of barrier to walk through would just be a mass of people.

On the way back through Delhi, it wasn't so bad except I needed a poo and every toilet that wasn't in use was the squat so had to wait around in the mens for ages. Thankfully I had met up with a lovely Thai girl who was on her way to Belgium and a Hungarian man from London who had just got married in Thailand to a Thai who sat with me on the plane so the airport although dated didn't seem as bad.

Only real thing that really pissed me off was when I got my luggage in Bangkok, some trampy fucker had stolen the two "dude rags" I had on my case, one I bought in Montreal and one I had from my first trip to Canada, both of which had survived a few trips so I'm guessing it was nothing to do with them needed removed as to why they went missing.

I haven't seen Jet come up on any of my searches for flights so I thought they didn't operate on this route any more but if you have tolerance for rude airport staff and (well if you've been in immigration in Swampy you should be used to it) passengers who are unaware of other people then work away.

At the end of the day your aim is to be in Thailand and that's all that matters :)

Speaking of shitholes, the two times I've been through Chennai's international gate area, the entire men's room was swimming in several inches of raw sewage. I don't usually look forward to taking a dump aboard an aircraft in flight, but on these occasions it was the lap-of-luxury vs the airport facilities.

300 quid cheaper made it worthwhile to me when I did it - the rest has been said already, especially about Mumbai and the staff attitude there.

It doesn't look cheaper from this end now, so no thanks.

No idea whatsoever why people moan about the mumbai airport, with JET airways, you only stay in it for about an hour and 45 minutes. I have been with Jet via mumbai airport about 9 times in 4 years, my opinion of JET, THE FINEST AIRLINE IN THE SKY. I have flown with all the so called best QATAR, ETIHAD, EMIRATES , none of them hold a candle to jet. Jet are always bringing drinks around and have  a wide selection, unlike all the so called best as I just mentioned who are all about saving money and being stingy with drinks. If at all possible, I go direct but when its too expensive, I will look for the better priced indirect flight, if JET is anywhere near the best price, I go with JET. I cannot say enough about this fantastic airline and anyone who moans about Mumbai airport needs to get a life.  The passport controle etc through mumbai is no different to abu dhabi, dubhai, qatar or anywhere else, 9 flights with jet, and the best 9 flights I have ever had. JET AIRWAYS RULE THE SKY FOR ME. I cannot praise them enough. Oh and for the record, I always fly from HEATHROW.

Also, in the 9 times I went with JET, I never had any problems with any staff in the airport, in fact they were more helpful than anywhere else in the world, especially the jet staff. I have no idea how the attitude of staff at MUMBAI airport has anything to do with jet airways anyway

Point taken re' airport staff not being Jet Airways' fault.

The flight from LHR to Mumbai was very good, but the plane onward to BKK was a smaller one and more cramped?

I've flown Etihad and had a really good flight. I was lucky a it was a empty plane and lots of room to spread out.

Theres not much between the two airlines in my opinion. I would personally choose ethihad over jet only because like you Paul I've nearly missed my connecting flight due to the queue chaos.

To be honest flights are so expensive from rip off Britain now I'd fly with any airline these days if the price is right.

I have used Jet many times ( 8 - 10 ) and also used Kingfisher, they are no longer in business I believe. I have just returned this time and used Etihad. I wouldn't say there was a huge difference between them. Most of the points raised I would agree with. However, with Jet you can change the date of your return flight (once) free of charge once you have landed. I like this because I book a trip using the cheapest available flight based on my outward date and then choose the cheapest return date knowing that I can change it to return on the date that I really want to come back, or stay longer If I choose. Also good should there be an emergency. A good little trick to save a few quid that I don't think many people are aware of.

that doesnt mean I think Etihad is bad, I think Etihad is a fantastic airline, but not as fantastic as jet.

I tend to go with whichever airline is cheapest. Looks like I might be giving Jet a go this time. Can't say I am particularly arsed about the other passengers or the airport, the end destination (at least outbound) makes it more than worthwhile.
