Is there a decent direct bus service from Buriram to Patts?

Don't do it, did Bangkok to Buriram in a Van with the Thai Family and that Drive was long enough.

Private Car so you can stop when you want and a Driver is cheap enough.

 

AirAsia sometimes flies from Buriram to Bangkok also, may also be NOK Air or one of the other Parties.

 

Get to Bangkok and get the Bus to Pattaya.

Lovely service complete with Airline style and dressed flight attendant. About 7 hours but does vary because follows different route on different days. Go into the Buriram Bus Station and there is a booth that sells all there tickets to different destinations with a large seat area for waiting alongside. You cant miss it. Seats are akin to Business Class style and size.

I have used the "big yellow bus company" to go to Surat Thani and they also have a service to Buriam. The trip to Surat Thani was over night but they have several buses each day to/from Buriam. Seats comfortable, service good and I would use them again. Here's their website http://iloveyellowbus.com/ (the main page is in Thai but there is an "english" button ). Its not exactly direct because several drop-offs and pick-ups occur along the way but a comfortable journey in good seats so sit back and relax - enjoy the scenery or take the night bus and sleep.
