Anyone heard of this place?

I stayed in a village named Kambon (not sure of correct spelling) outside of Si Muang Mai, Ubon Ratchathanie. I am trying to find it on Google maps but only one that shows up is 'Ban Kam Bon' in Sisaket but that is to far south to be the right place.

Anyone know the correct spelling of the place I'm looking for?

There's also Huai Kham Bon in Ubon, but that's a bit too far from Si Muang Mai, I think?

Or perhaps you mean Kham Pom? It also seems too far from Si Muang Mai, but maybe?

I've never heard of Kambon as you spell it (which admittedly might be wrong). Those are the only two places I've heard of that are close. (By the way, Huai Kham Bon is a fairly nice lake to visit on a Sunday afternoon.)

I was told it is definetly Ban Kham Bon, there was a river not far with a sort of causeway to cross it. We would go there to just lay in the small kind of rapids that developed from the causeway...the locals would come and check me out.

Hi Mowerman,

I think you're about 99% right - which is doing pretty well with thai language translations - You've just missed the 'NG' at the end.

.

My guess is you should look for 'Ban Kham Bong' which lies 17 to 18 Km north of Si Muang Mai.

I'm thinking this because 'Ban Kham Bong' is right on the only river in the whole area (a southwards heading tributary of the Mun river)

Hope this helps.

Edit: Don't search with google Earth though as you'll be wasting your time - use iguide travel/isaan.

See a small place north of 'Si Muang Mai' called 'Tabai' -

Then look a little north and slightly east across the river - Bingo! (I hope)
