Can anyone recommend a girl friendly hotel in the centre of Chiang Mai, at the lower price range. I've got a trip planned and i don't want to get there and find i can't take a girl back to the hotel.

I can mention a few...

Royal Lanna Hotel: slighly old fashioned but huge rooms and very clean, with bath. Located right at the night market, seconds aways from the McDo and Burger King. Price: found today for 1038 Baht on hotelthailand.net. Agoda sells it for 1250. Inclusive Breakfast. Free wifi. Even if you check-in alone, ask for a breakfast for 2...

Thaphae Garden: nice upmarket guesthouse, located between Loi Kroh (street with bars) and Thapae Road. Little swimming pool (cold). Free wifi. Price: 500 Baht fan, 650 (I think) aircon. More expensive via the booking engines, so book direct with the hotel.

Oriental Garden guesthouse: Opposite the little bar complex with the boxing stadium. Free wifi. Rooms are VERY basic but clean! Price: about 350 Baht/night.

Duangtawan hotel and Raming Lodge. Both about 1500 Baht/night via the cheapest booking engines... Maybe above your budget? Raming Lodge is nice though...

I agree with the above first choice Duangtawan second Royal Lanna , stayed in both last year very near the action

Smith Residence, near Rhuampath Chiangmai Hospital, just south of the moat is lady friendly. I've stayed there a bunch of times. It's around 650b/night (they have cheaper and more expensive). Wifi isn't included, but it's 200b/week (I think 50b/day if you buy it that way). They have a security guy at night, but he's usually asleep by the time I get back. Even if he's awake, he doesn't care who you take (no ID check) as long as you're escorting any visitors.

There's apparently a second Smith Residence being built (or maybe it's finished now?) northeast of the moat called "Smith Towers".

Hi Blake1,

I tried them all but the Duangtawan, and yes, they are all Guest Friendly...

My preference goes to:

1. Raming Lodge (best service and infrastructure)

2. Thaphae Garden (best price/quality)

3. Royal Lanna (best...wifi?)

4. Oriental Garden (best location, opposite the entertainment center)

Thanks Blake1 for your info. I would be able to confirm whether Duangtawan is GF when I'm back from next month Songkran's trip in CM. But so far what I read from the other forum that it's GF, let's see. Now the most worrying is the 'HAZE' situation happening right now in Northern Thailand. Sigh!

Hi all, I'm back from CM. Centara Duangtawan hotel should be a GF hotel, so far I was not stopped because I'm back at the hotel 2am most of the time. And when I was there, it's 'HAZE' free.

I prefer it when hotels advertise right on their websites that they're "Guest-friendly", just like the SPAM WORD does. No need to email them and ask. Is it safe to assume that hotels mentioned above are "guest-friendly"?

I live here so I do not go to hotels that often, but my visiting friends do. I think there are so many choices and my personal would go to Montri hotel just in front of Tha Phae Gate (100% Girls Friendly) or Royal Lanna (also 100% Girls Friendly) both this hotel are in the 1,300 THB range. Then, almost all the Guest Houses are Girls Friendly and the price varies from 2 / 300 to 8 /900 THB personally I like the Chiang Mai White House that is in a soi not far from Tha Phae Gate or the Summit hotel @ 4 / 500 THB.

Now days almost all G.H. have the free wifi, air con, hot water basic commodity with many including also a TV set and a Fridge.

A word on the Centara Duangtawan hotel, one of my friends happened to stay there and ti was NOT Girls Friendly infact they charged him 600 THB for the joiner. But it was a couple (or maybe more) years ago, so probably they could have chanced their policy.

I have also stayed at Amora--my Thai teacher got me a room there for 800 Baht a night--it pays to build connections in LOS. It is girl friendly and the manager, Noy, used to openly flirt with me in front of my lady du jour. The Duangtuwan is much nicer hotel and right by the action on Loi Kroh--It has a great pool and gym with great views of the city. I got the impression the hotel was of the sort that was girl-friendly if one used discretion. Main check in is on 2nd floor, there are elevators on first floor and the elevators are before one gets to the check-in counter. I'm guessing Duangtuwan is guest-friendly as long as one is discreet and isn't causing trouble. It seems to get a lot of respectable foreign tourists types so I would act accordingly and show some respect. Chiang Mai is a very odd place in some respects and last time I was there (June 2012), I noticed signs on several main streets that warned against Loy Kroh Road. There is a huge liberal contingent there which leads to both a "live and let live" and a "these women are victims" mentality which seems to war against one another on occasion.

Recommend

Raming Lodge in Loi Kroh Road, 2 minutes walk to the moat and lots of restaurants. Several bars with BG's on the way.

Top North hotel (new wing, not the other rooms), by the moat. Do not confuse with Top North Guest House. Think about 1300 THB inc breakfast.

Both are GF in my experience.

If you are on a really tight budged then this is probably the cheapest girl friendly accommodation in Chiang Mai.

Name is "Nice Apartment" and costs 390 THB per day. It is not a hotel but a basic room with air con, TV and own bath room.

Location: Soi 1 Ratchadamnem Rd (2 min walk from Thapae Gate inside the old city). They close the gate after 8pm and the receptionist leaves. After this time you just bring the girl and open the gate with your own key - simple as that.

I recommend the Seven Suns Residence on Ratchamanka Road in the old city.    www.sevensuns.net

I have stayed there three times now and it is a fantastic little hotel.   The owner, Lester, used to own the Summer Breeze hotel in Patong.  The hotel is clean, very well run and is guest friendly.  The rooms are huge along with the bathrooms.

Was at the Raming lodge 3 years ago. Nice to see it's still recommended. Great place good location. Nice stoll down to the market.

They have a very good travel desk in the hotel. Very comprehensive through the hotel website.

I'd re book if I was headin up north
