Hi. What are the prices of MacBook Pro 17' in Bangkok malls like Pantip Plaza, MBK or other shops? I mean the basic 17' with i7 2.4GHz, 4GB RAM.

Anyone who buys from there would be helpful for me to answer. Or if you are planning to go to the malls soon please see the prices and write here.

What shops do you suggest me buying it from?

Also can you check if the new HP Envy 3000 series (that looks like MacBook :)) has arrived at the shops there?

Probably not much help but my quick scan of Apple gear in BKK was prices within a few baht of price back here in Oz. Probably better chance for a discount with the HP but make sure it comes with an International warranty.

Καλωσόρισες ο φίλος μου :)

I bought my MBP within a month of leaving along with a Ipad for the Mrs and got the education discount and 10% tax refund at the airport so that might have evened the odds.

:D

But you had to pay for taxes when you arrived in Australia's airport? Did you have the MBP on its box on the airport or you had it opened without any boxes etc.?

So, where had you got the 10% tax refund? At the airport or at the Apple store? Can I do the same?

PS1. Sorry for my bad English, but the "education discount" is a discount that a student or a teacher can have?

PS2. All my mother's relatives (and mine of course) live in Melbourne...more than 100 relatives there...I have 11 1st cousins there. :D

Yeah the education discount is available for any student or teacher, actually any school employee should be eligable. Apple stores dont seem to go to any great lengths to validate your position other than having a working school email address. The discount is quite respectable but varies from product to product. Just go to the education pricing section on the Apple store website and look up the product your interested in.

The 10% gst refund is available to anyone. You claim it at the airport, there is a booth once you clear immigration. You must provide a reciept and show the product (does not have to be in original packaging) You can make your purchase up to a month before you travel. I have seen these booths at lots of airports as quite a few countries have similar schemes for local tax refunds.
