14 Don't be an asshole and you wont have any problems. Not saying don't be aware of the well known issues (jet ski anyone) but if your not looking for trouble it probably wont find you.

have lots of small money. change your 1000Bt notes in a 7-11 before going to bars, so many people are reluctant to give you change.

- Keep a low profile. Don't try to pretend to be a big, rich, tough guy unless you are looking for a challenge

- Don't do anything abroad that you wouldn't do at home

- Avoid getting drunk and preventing your brain from making correct decisions, unless you are in an environment that allows it

Wallet on a chain.

Only carry what you can afford to lose.

Carry cards for your hotel/accomodation.

Never go anywhere with anyone that you just met unless it is heavy populated.

Only drink as much as you can handle to still get home.

Tip people a little more than usual, you'll get better service and if they see you in trouble, they will often remember you an help out..

Never leave your drink unattended in a bar, have it near you at all times. If you have to go to the bathroom, finish it before and order a new one when you come back (basic safety, also valid in Falangland).

Don't accept food or drinks in a bus from someone you don't know (even from fellow falangs). Find an elegant excuse to refuse so you don't offend anyone (the vast majority of people are honest, but you can never tell which ones are not).

You'll obviously have to watch out that nobody takes something from your bag, but the opposite is true as well : be extra careful that no one puts something in your bag that might put you into trouble later.

At the airport, be very careful in the shops (i.e. duty free). Don't walk around with an item in your hand you intend to buy and pay later at a further till. Pay it immediately at the nearest cash register so that you cannot be accused of shop lifting. There is a famous scam with this, some falangs have been unduly accused of shop lifting and then had to pay large amounts under the table in order to be able to catch their flights.

Smile as long as possible (not always easy I know), whatever happens, in all circumstances.

The most important : enjoy your holiday. It's really a great place, safety is usually not an issue when you use common sense.

999 - Try not to be completely paranoid about going to an essentially safe country where the vast majority of the people are friendly and honest.

If you do find yourself in an altercation/argument with taxi driver/bar owner etc dont lose your head like you might in your own country and try and front it out as it doesent work in Thailand.

Try and stay polite, civil, dont lose your temper and come to a mutual agreement because if you step over the line you will not be fighting one guy but three or four as all the thais stick together and will appear from nowhere.

Sometimes it is over very small money which is it really worth getting in a fight when your on your hols surrounded by loads of beautiful girls who do want to go out with you.

If you bring an FL(s) to your room, Keep your belongings in a safe/secured place..... out of her/their reach !

in thailand beware of the money denomination -bill scam , especially in some bars, where you give  a higher denomination bill  for settling the tab and are cheated saying that you had paid a lower denomination and like wise given back less in change or asked to pay more..........

the gem scam , the jet-ski scam in pattaya......
