I have been told countless number of times not to rent a house. The reason I have been given is that it is to dangerous. I have been told that the chances of being robbed are very high especially for foreigners. Could some of you guys give me some feedback? I have seen some great homes in some new developments that look great and are up for rent at reasonable prices. Getting tempted but a little weary still. What do you guys think? I want to hear the pros and the cons.

My mate rented a 2 bedroom house for a year, he got it for 10,000 a month but paid all the rent up front. It was gated so don't think he had a problem with security but what did start to bother him after a while was dogs barking. It was a terraced house with people both sides and what I didn't like was that there wasn't any windows downstairs so you only got light from the entrance.

 

He has now moved to a condo and my choice would be an apartment also, that's the good thing with renting at least you can move if you don't like it or fancy a change.

I have rented both, currently have a 34 sq mtr room near carrefour, and its plenty enough space for me.

sometimes with a house its very hard to get your deposit back from thai landlords, they always find an excuse not to return it, especially if they know you are leaving.

robbery can be a problem in some areas, talk to foreigners who live nearby and see what their experience has been.

If you dont need the space (just you living there) the extra space is pretty wasted so evaluate your needs.

If you have a car or motorbike the house will usually have some garage space so thats a plus but many condo/apartment blocks have car and bike space and 24 hour security.
