Goose's fish and chips gets the thumbs down from me

The Place - Goose's Fish and Chips, 2nd Road (at the top of Soi 7, Beach Road)

 

The time / date - Sat 9th July - 2.30pm

 

Those present - Me and my sweetly pretty missus.....

 

 

Arrived at Goose's to see a completely empty restaurant, apart from a Ferang playing on a laptop opposite the bar....

 

 

Sat down and asked waitress if they had any english newspapers and she pointed to a table in front of the Ferang on the computer - i had to walk round him cos he was sitting with his feet sticking out - i picked up the papers, smiled at him - only for him to ignore me and carry on faffing about on the computer - he didn't even have the courtesy to move his feet as i went back to my table....

 

Anyway food comes - not bad, although chips a tad under cooked - but got me thinking - "is the bloke on the computer the owner or just an ignorant customer" ?

 

so, we are mid way through our meal, and the bloke closes the lap top and proceeds to walk out - as he passed our table i smiled at him - again to be ignored.......

 

After he left, i called the waitress over and asked if the man was "big boss" - and the answer was "yes" and she went on to say she was sorry but he is rude to everyone and many customers don't go back.....

 

Well - Like my title said - "some Brits don't deserve to be in business" - and this miserable so and so is definately one of them.....

 

Wild horses wouldn't drag me back there....

 

 

By complete contrast, a few weeks ago we went to the Village Chippery, on the Village Estate, 3rd Road (opp fire station)

 

 

As we sat down the owner (a Britt from Northern England) came out to greet us and asked where we had head about the place ? - ordered and had a few minutes natter with and found him to be very personable and very proud about the quality of his product....

 

Food came - absolutely smashing deffo 10/10 - and half way through our meal, owner came back to see if everything was ok with our food and did we need anything else....

 

By complete contrast, he deserves to be in business.....

Maybe you're correct, maybe he just shows no interest in his customers but maybe he was just having a bad day? At least the food wasn't bad! I take it that your negative conclusion of the business was mainly based upon the big bosses attitude towards you on that particular day? I'm not saying you're wrong, I've never been there, but would your impression of been different if he had chatted to you?

before retiring here, i owned a customer service business in the uk for 30 years and always impressed on my staff to be friendly to customers, as they always had our choice and could buy our product elsewhere......

 

and forget the "bad day" - his staff admitted he was always like that........

That restaurant Goose’s on Second Road, between Soi 7 and Soi 8, is disgusting.

 

I have been there once and only once.

 

The “chicken cream soup” was apparently made with sweetened condensed milk (“Carnation”) instead of fresh cream (My Thai wife knows better.) and made me nearly vomit.

 

The “cod” was more flour than fish.

 

But some British restaurants are good, such as The Butcher’s Arms, I tried last week.

I went there once.....never agian the service staff were shit no table service they were too busy talking and the night i was there 3 tables were occupied. talk with your feet plenty of other places in pattaya and a place on soi langkee i have been told does a good fish and chips

i can appreciate where you are coming from but I don't think I would ever shun a place just because the owner wasn't hospitable (and assuming I couldn't fault the food). Maybe in a top notch restaurant that is recognised for its service but you said the food was fine and the waiter was friendly so that would be enough for me to return. As long as the price is fair then I would return but, then again, I usually like to keep to myself anyway so don't enjoy the small-talk.

Went there once, the food was decent but by the time i got the meal i wasnt really hungry anymore. I dont mind waiting a while for fresh food, but i must have waited nearly an hour and it wasnt busy.

I've been in Goose's twice and have met the owner and found him to be a pleasant guyso I'm wondering if the waitress knew what she was talking about.

Went there last year... Never again... Waited for over an hour for the dinner... Disgusted, left without giving a tip and told em i wont be back but they dont give a fuck.

I see these guys being advertised on TV all the time. You would think that after paying for ad campaign to get noticed you would also provide a great dining experience and good customer service. It sounds to me like the owner just does not give a shit. So why advertise as it sounds like he is just throwing his money away when he can't even meet the most basic needs of the customer. I wanted to try this place but with all the bad threads i will stick to the Jolly Friar.

I don't think the waitress got fired, there are several so it would be hard to prove which one said it. The food was ok but they would not let me have the lunch special price because it was over 15 min earlier.

Fish is great, chips never taste good in Thailand, sure its the potatoes.

 

Found the owner rude as well, not sure what his issue is, but not cut out for the hospitality business.

Anyway, Goose’s Fish and Chips went dark a couple of weeks ago. I’m not surprised. The only time I went there, apart from the uncongenial boss, the soup and main dish were disgusting.

It was closed when I went past in June. It was good for a while last year I think. Looked like a prime location too. Shame as it could have been a great little earner.
