Via in person or post it ?

Guys i need some advice for a friend (honest, not me). He want to get a 3 entry tourist visa but is wary of posting his passport to Hull. He would rather pay petrol (we're in Dover 300 miles away) to Hull and get the visa in person. I'm trying to persuade him that it is perfectly safe to post his passport to Hull. The other option is to go to London but they won't issue the visa on the same day. This would mean 2 trips to London and about the same cost as driving to Hull.

Please post her your thoughts and help me convince him it's safe to post his passport !

Why would he go all the way to Hull to apply for a visa? What is wrong with the embassy in London?
