Monday Topic

MIGHTYONE

Recommended Posts

Just Thought it would be good to get a topic to discuss every Monday concerning a topic over the weekend.

So Tiger gets another Major. I was too young to see Jack Nicklaus at his peak but would be interested to hear what other members think of them both. Who do you think is better? When Jack had the same amount of majors as Tiger he was 35, Tiger is now 31.

I was also too young to see the great Jack in his prime, but from everything i have seen and read on the matter i would say Tiger is the better player IMHO.

Tiger is a prodigy. I missed the Golden Bears time aswell but I do have the golf channel and watch golf alot, and from the veiws of many of todays commentators and players, Tiger is the best. Ive watched him play since he started and no one can seem match him.

The most unfair thing about life is the way it ends. I mean, life is tough. It takes up a lot of your time. What do you get at the end of it?

A death. What's that, a bonus ? I think the life cycle is all backwards.

You should die first, get it out of the way. Then you live in an old age home. You get kicked out when you're too young, you get a gold watch, you go to work.

You work forty years until you're young enough to enjoy your retirement.

You do drugs, alcohol, you party, you get ready for high school. You go to grade school, you become a kid, you play, you have no responsibilities.

You become a little baby, you go back into the womb, you spend your last nine months floating... you finish off as an orgasm.

It's perfect !

I had the priveledge of seeing Nicklaus play in my younger days.

I was in St. Andrews for the first day of the 1970, which Nicklaus won after a play-off with Doug Sanders. Everyone recalls Sanders three-putting the final hole to let Nicklaus in for a play-off, but who remembers his score on the very first hole. He bogeyed that as well, by putting his second into the Swilken.

I was in the stands at the 18th in 1977 when Watson pipped Nicklaus at Turnberry, both players holing birdie putts on the last. Again, I was in the stands at the 18th the following year when Nicklaus won at St. Andrews.

I haven't had the pleasure of seeing Woods play "live" but overall, I have to say that I think Woods is the best player there has ever been. He will also remain so for a very long time.

Both players seem to have the ability to "intimidate" others into making mistake during their rounds, whilst playing near faultless golf themselves. That is a sign of a true champion.

Strangely, Woods' record in the Ryder Cup is not that impressive for someone of his standing.

It seems to me that in all sports the players or competitors are getting better and better all the time And Tiger is a prime example I dont think there has ever been anyone to get near him and there wont be for maybe another 10-20 years.

Don't ask me why but i am and always was a great lover of Colin Montgomery, sometimes like in all sports you need to be touched with that magic wand, and for some sort of reason Colin must of been touched with a counterfeit magic wand in his career :Oops1:

I agree, but they are 2 great players in their own rights but Tiger is a genius.

Certainly no expert on the matter but ...

I say the jury is still out on this one.

In Jack's favor:

Greater competition: Arnold Palmer, Gary Player, Lee Trevino, Ray Floyd, Tom Watson, Tom Kite (sure I missed a few) but how many majors did these guys win between them?

Tiger battles who? Phil and Vijay at three majors a piece, Ernie and Retief at two. But when was the last time Vijay, Ernie and Retief really contended for a major?

I'd say greater general competition now but not as tough consistent top level rivals as in Jack's era.

Not only did Jack win 18 majors, but he also finished second in 19 more. Pretty impressive!

Jack was also way loooong, yes a little behind Tiger with today's technology, but I still say advantage Jack.

My greatest image of Jack was hitting balls as a teen at night at his dad's course while using the headlights of the family car to lighten up the driving range!

:P
