Iv read so many post and a lot seem to be different. My question is ''do you need to have a set ammount of money in your bank to show you can support a thai girl on a visa application for her to visit your home country, or is it a case of having a regular income? many thanks

Regualr income with some standing orders on your bank statement as it proves your address, work place etc is what they seem to be after more than how rich you are.

Both, a regular income and a decent stash in the bank. It all forms the picture in the ECO's head as to whether he believes the lady will be supported whilst in the UK. You should worry more about proving beyond any doubt, her return. And part of that is her 'economic ties' to her host nation, hence, she needs a stash of cash too.

If your counting the pennies, and hoping she will visit for the entire 6 months, clearly causing you financial distress, the ECO will see this from your 6 months of bank statements.

If you've clearly got a few grand stashed and can prove it, and state in a written letter that she's visiting for 2-8 weeks, the ECO will think allot better than the example before.

I wouldn't bother doing a visa unless you have £2000 (at least) in the bank not including the price of the air ticket and money for clothes.

You hit the nail on the head there, this is the most important part forget about the money, you could lie and say she is saying 1 month and she will get a 6 month visit visa anyway so don't worry about that, just prove she will leave after her visa is finished which is not easy
