I highly recommend www.gaiandjoel.com run by an Aussie guy and his wife both very talented and experienced chefs, fantastic food as good as anything I've had elsewhere in the world. Great value for money as you're not paying for the big name either.

Crepe and Co down Soi 12 off Sukumvit Rd. French, Moroccan which has made many write ups in the bangkok post. The girls love it, nice food and great service off the main drag.

Sirocco is a little to steep for my taste. :-) But a nice bar and worth the trip just for a short time to see the view. Worth the price of admission - that overpriced drink. They have a dress code, will kick you to the back bar (not the main area seen in photos) if you are in shorts/T-shirts. Very upscale. Food expensive...

Agree- Crepe & Co is one of the best restaurants in BKK. Unpretentious but nice, with a good garden. Implausibly diverse menu. Everything here is good. These guys know how to cook. Name is misleading - they certainly have Crepes, but it has a much broader menu. One would be hard-pressed to find fault with this place.

The Huntsman Pub in the basement of the Landmark hotel has always had good food when I've been there. It's lacking any view and it's not cheap though, but I've always found the food about average, and when I get a hankering for some western food when I'm in the area that's usually where I'll go.

Several years ago I also stayed at the hotel, I think they were remodeling and had some deals on rooms (every time since I've ruled it out as too expensive). The deal included a free breakfast buffet, and it was the best breakfast I've ever had. Every morning that week, the breakfast was just unbeatable and I was actually making it a point to wake up on vacation in time to get in on it.

It's probably the management takes there food seriously and every other restaurant in that hotel is great too, but those are the only ones I've sampled. And they are not bargains.

Good range of hygienic fast food at very reasonable prices in the Tops foodhall, under Robinson, Sukhumvit between sois 17 and 19. Would recommend trying the Vietnamese food counter.

I sometimes stay near the Asoke/ Phrom Pong area when in BKK (Nana is good to play in but too scummy to stay in) and this is my regular place for a quick and inexpensive breakfast - thai style of course.

Another great place for an inexpensive but tasty thai meal is the seafood restaurants on Sukhumvit soi 7 opposite the infamous beer garden. Here you will find a collection of 4-5 seafood restaurants all sharing the same communal seating space. Each displays its fresh fish and seafood on ice trays in front of its outlet. You can sit anywhere and order your entire meal from just one place or different items from different outlets - the girls will bring you their menus to the table.

The last time I visited, there were four of us, we had - grilled jumbo prawns, bbq squid, thai fishcakes, whole grilled bass in manao (lime) sauce, tom yam talay, fried morning glory plus crab fried rice for 4. The bill came to a little over 1500b including 2-3 large bottles of singha! Not bad for a seafood meal and plenty of it!

A vid of the place can be found here:

I used to go to the same restaurant there a lot but last time I went the price had gone up and the portion size had gone down. Maybe I should give a different one of them a go.

Another great place for very cheap seafood in Bangkok is China town. From about five or six o'clock they start setting up seafood stalls on the street. All really fresh and very cheap. Definitely worth the trek over there.

Thanks for the tip Leadpencil - always wanted to try the Yaorowat restaurants but been too apprehensive as it can be quite daunting unless you know the area well!

I wonder how healthy, I remember going up to the top of Byoke tower in Bangkok for the view on the rotating platform a few yrs back and seeing and tasting the pollution from the busiest City in the world below.

Hello

As Spursman said the main area for eating is the Yaowarat Road which you can find here . I have always taken the MRT to Hua Lamphong and then walked for 10-15 minutes. There are some interesting little shops on the way, especially if you are after some more genuine souvenirs like very old Buddha statues. Most of the shops in the area are very cheap.

Here is a fairly good link about things to see and do in the area.

Good view restaurant in Bangkok has been good from day one offering very good value

I would also recommend Vertigo in bangkok, an unreal view looking over all of Bangkok, excellent service, very good steak and reasonable prices (need to check the weather forecast first though and no shorts and flip flops)

Better to be daring and cool, than timid and uncool! Life's journey is not about arriving at your gravesite in a well preserved condition, but rather dropping into it in a long sideways skid, totally worn out, and shouting "Holy Shit...What a ride" - Indian Larry

If the pocket can take it the hotel restaurant at the top of the land mark hotel is the dogs b******s. Glass lift up the outside of the building and then greeted by an absolute model in full traditional thai dress. Have never seen the place full as very pricey, worked out about 3000 baht a head when we went but the food is top quality if you want good westen food. I had a great steak but the foi gras starter was as good as it gets.
