Accidentally clicked facebook 'Like this' on an incriminating thread..

Ok this deserves it's own thread, given the implications. I've quoted some comments from another facebook related thread from PA just to highlight some points that have been covered in the past, but that I've found to be incorrect.

Thank fucking god I was paying attention and saw the little graphic animation confirming I had clicked 'like this', as you could miss it, and unbeknown to me I would have had a 'like this thread' on my facebook account that quite simply I could not have explained away. When I saw the likes this link on my facebook, it wasn't clear how to delete it, for a bit I thought you couldn't :). Another trap is certain 'like this' adds will automatically add information to your interests section, so even if you delete a link, there might be residual information left elsewhere. I don't believe this happens for threads on PA, but have seen happen with other websites.

My complaint is the "Like" and "Facebook" icons. I don't want to EVER share PA on my facebook account, even if lightning strikes and something screwy happens, I don't ever ever ever want that to happen.

The only way that data can be shared between this site and your Facebook account is if you have either joined the forum using Facebook connect (allowing Addicts to pull username, email and password information from Facebook) or you have linked your account on the forum with your Facebook account which you would do on your forum settings page.

If neither of those is true then you have nothing to worry about.

I can one billion percent confirm I would never link my facebook account with my pattaya addicts account. So if it is linked, it happened either by default, or by some other means that I totally missed.

I was signed into facebook at the time, but facebook wasn't open on any other page, it was simply the 'remember me' thing so it keeps it logged in or something. So for sure my fault if this is the cause, but it's really easy to do, and perhaps pretty normal for facebook users (to have it remember the login).

Does anyone really want to be posting PA links on facebook? Check out the 'what do you tell friends and family threads', and I get the feeling most would rather not have something like this accidentally pop up. A slip up that doesn't happen with just one person, but *every* person they know on facebook.

Sorry for what might be an ignorant question, but I can't FIND what I have "liked" -- where is it?

I keep my FB account separate from my PA account, as well, though I have considered setting up an alternate "monger FB page"

You're talking about on your facebook page? Just click on recent updates (on your status or wall page, I forget), that's where it was displaying the 'liked' link.

Having facebook links on pattaya-addicts is dangerous business for members. Some arent experienced enough to adjust the security and privacy settings on facebook.

I see NO REASON for facebook to be a part of pattaya-addicts. Maybe somebody can clue us in on the rationale! :) Cheers.

By careful which email you create a Facebook account with - they can use it to associate different accounts.

Not that i have facebook, but I would imagine if you run a business it is another form of advertising that generates customers = profit , ie it gets your name and product out among the pulbic quickly and cheaply, like a modern version of word of mouth except you are the puppet and it is their mouth. just my take on facebook in general

It's not exactly rocket science.... Just dont associate your facebook account with your forum account.

Simples :)

That's what I'm saying, I know for a fact I didn't associate the accounts, at least not intentionally. Would be a stupid thing for me to do to say the least. I was just browsing my options to see if I could confirm this, and is it the 'Facebook Connect' setting area? When I click that, it says "You will need to connect with Facebook before you can configure your options. If you do not see the Facebook button below, try logging out of Facebook and reloading this page.". I assume this is confirmation I have not linked with facebook..?

Where else can I check settings, to see if it's an account configuration issue?

My forum account is registered with a different email address from facebook account.

All I'm saying is this can happen accidentally, this is the key issue. It's not like I'm computer illiterate either, and I would like to get to the bottom of how it happened. It's still possible I clicked on something I shouldn't have at some stage, but unlikely, and again, could happen to others. Perhaps if someone who also knows they haven't linked to facebook, login to their facebook, then click on a 'Like this' link to see if it gets posted on that facebook account (only if posting such links on facebook won't cause problems for you).

ooops, HeHeHe

Has it shown up on your FB page? If yes and you cant find the way to delete the connection between FB and PA. just mail the mods, sure they can guide you.

On you FB page, you can delete posts, but sadly usually most of your friends would have had an update, letting them know what you Liked!

I personally have never had this issue, but can say, it has nearly happened, by mistake. So I agree. Move the FB like button, but you know, this might be difficult for the webmaster to change..

It's there to share your likes with your friends,

PA is on FB, so there should be a link!

Traffic Traffic Traffic

If you are still worried , Please mail a MOD.

What would happen in the situation if you had Thai bargirls on your face book and if you clicked shsre this topic on facebook would it not be a case of breaking rule number 1 do not show the forum to non members or bargirls.

And who would be responsible for breaking that rule the person providing the link or the person clicking it

Anyhow every now and then I find a link to a post on this forum when browsing Google and I am able to read it, so I guess anyone could so would that be breaking the don't show anyone the forum .

I've confirmed that it's just the fact you're logged into facebook at the time. Thinking back, this makes perfect sense, as many sites that don't even require you to log in, such as news feeds, have the 'Like this' button there. So obviously you don't need to link anything to your facebook account first. What's disturbing is I hadn't logged into facebook for days and it kept the login active, which basically means any time you click like this it goes to last logged in facebook account (that wasn't properly logged out).

You can delete the post and unlike no problem, and I've confirmed deleting it clears it from other peoples status feeds. So there was just a brief window period when it was showing, though it wouldn't be hard to miss the fact you accidentally clicked likes this in the first place (if your eye wasn't following the cursor). It's not like it pops up with a window telling you about it.

I was thinking exactly the same thing, a lot of guys have BGs as friends on facebook, and if they can read English well, they're likely to read these kind of links if they spot them.

There's another scenario that is fairly remote, but would still be a bit of a disaster. If a BG borrows your laptop to check her facebook, and doesn't log out properly, she could find her account with a pattaya addicts thread 'Like this' the next time she logs in.. I've had may BGs borrow my laptop to check facebook, but I think as a rule they log out properly, so I don't think very likely.

Very very few people use the like this button, if it was heavily used, then some problems could arise.

I also suspect that fewer and fewer guys are lying to their family and friends about their holidays to Pattaya. I agree that there are still plenty of guys that want to remain secret, but those guys often don't post or even sign up to forums.

Thousands of guys on facebook, that are attaching themselves to Pattaya bars, gogos and nightclubs.

I tried to rebrand the forum as a "social networking website" to make it sound better/modern.

2 Points to add

1 This can only happen if you are already logged into facebook or you have clicked keep me logged in.

2 Advanced sections cannot be shared

set up another FB profile and use a "safe" email address...most ISP's allow multiple emails on one account...after many snide remarks about how many TG's I was "friends" with I firewalled my activities from the less enlightened

  • 1 month later...

There is an easy answer to avoid getting in trouble... Choose FB or Addicts. I chose Addicts. Better yet, Don't use FB, I stopped using altogether.

I don't care for posting anything personal, specially Pattaya related. Also, rest assure if you have anything risque' on your FB it could be used

against you by a co-worker, wife, GF, authorities, etc. if you ever get in trouble.

If you insist on using it, then install another browser such as Opera and use that for mongering, porno, etc and have cookies, history, etc. auto cleared.

A bit paranoid? Maybe, but I just want to make sure my Pattaya secret life stays secret.

An ultra safe way is to use an alternative browser to view any adult themed content.

I use IE9 for banking, email or facebook while fire fox for more private viewing matter. Means there is zero chance of cross contamination! You could use opera or chrome if you dont like IE9 but with its use of the GUI chip its the fastest atm
