15 days in Thailand- Itinerary suggestions?

Hi Tripadvisors...

 

My good friend travelling to Thailand for about 2 weeks (during the high season) and she was thinking of the following itinerary...

 

3 days Bangkok (one day for Ayutthaya)

 

4 days Chiang Mai (not including travel time)

 

4 days Phuket (not including travel time)

 

She just want to know if this is enough time to see some good sights in Bangkok (or is Bangkok really worth it? should she only do two days and then head north), enough time to enjoy Chiang Mai (with a few day trips, elephants, etc.), and sufficient time to see a bit of Phuket and some surrounding islands for day trips.

 

Any advice is appreciated.

Maybe a stop at Sukhothai Historical Park and Sri Satchanalai National Park on the way from Ayutthaya to Chiang Mai.
