I often wonder why some of you dont leave your prejudices about gay people in your home country.

 

Granted,the prejudice I have received as a gay male has mostly been from th 2 week tourist type rather than older expat guys.

 

Some of the incidents where i have been threatened and abused were in McDonalds ,where i was actually lunching with a older Thai Ladyboy friend ,a person not connected to the bar scene,only to have some Yob with a european accent come up and say "disgusting",disgusting",now im not certain he was talking about us or the food,lol,but he seemed to be angry before walking off with his thai lady friend.

 

The second incident was in soi bukhow walking with a guy i barfined from Cartier boys go go,only to have several what looked like young British guys,heads shaved,tattoos throw something and yell out fags at us.

The object they threw was the bin cup,the guy i was with was a muscular young thai guy who stopped and looked back at them,i quickly kept walking,i must admit one of them was quite goodlooking.

 

Now i regularly read the 4 or so Pattaya based gay boards where incidents such as these are reported all the time.

Sometimes its not only verbal abuse but spitting etc.

 

Why do you need to care what others are doing?

Do you get that bored after a while you have to shout to people walking past and telling us what you think?

 

Recently in Jomtien in the gay area,several young farang guys overturned tables outside a gay bar whilst customers mostly elderly men were sitting only to be chased by the Thai guys working there and apparently have never been back since,even heard they refused to come back to collect their rented motorbike,not sure what the thai gay barowners said to them but was enough for them not to come back.

 

Really should i be concerned when walking with a thai guy i have just barfined because from assault from straight farang tourists.

Have you not enough to do in your holiday in Pattaya you must stop stare and laugh at a gay farang with a thai guy?

 

Have you lived such a sheltered life? Why do some people that are on holidays even care what others are doing?

 

Is your life that boring you need to stop and shout abuse at me and other gay farang?

,and once i was sitting in a very good bar in soi bukcow listening to three halfwits talk about how all the gays in Pattaya were pedophiles , you read the gay boards you would find out that Gays hate pedophiles ,so walking with a guy 25yo who looks 18yo is none of your business ,pedophiles even frequent straight bars looking for girls too.

 

Nobody is stopping you from having personal opinion BUT you must have small minds to abuse passing guys holding hands in the street.

I dont hold hands with my bar offs,but some guys hold hands with their boyfriends ,my personal opinion is i dont like that,but its their business,what right have i got as a tourist to stop them and abuse them and even in some cases spit in the farangs face,what for?

 

In some ways even though im a poof and enjoy bending over forwards, do not like to sit in a gay bar and watch some elderly farang kiss a guy,should be done in private.

 

Now im no prude,i dont mind be labeled as a poof in general talk or how i like bending over forwards to help other guys out,and having a sense of humour and i know from personal experience some poofs dont like that,but spitting at them/me etc ?is that necessary.

How do the knobs in soi bukcow know the thai guy i was with was gay?

he couldnt of been a tradesman i was showing around ,ok he had a handbag but so what.

 

There s a few positives about being a poof,at least i dont need viagra.

well all I can say is i cannot for the life of me see why people get so upset about gay etc etc etc. In the end why or why would they even bother worrying about them. I suppose thats what you get from some narrow minded dickheads. they cant be to confident in who they are or think that it makes them bigger to do this kind of thing. but in the end they are the waste of time.

lol. I am hetero and proud of it. The guy in macdonalds was obviously disgusted at the pricing (more expensive than Australia) - you're being paranoid. Those guys who threw the chit bin at you are people I wouldn't associate with (I would leave the bar). If there is any place on Earth that all people could be accepted it would be Pattaya. Considering the third sex are there in good numbers there is no other place like it (that I have found, anyways). It also amuses me that you would post something like this.

I don't mean it as an attack, but I feel everybody is entitled to their own opinion about things as long as what they do doesn't hurt others. That's what I love about the Thai attitude.

I do agree with you though that Pattaya is one place where everybody should live and let live especially when it comes to their sexual preferences.

Strange, I've been going to Pattaya for yrs, I've never seen any abuse aimed towards gay people, or myself and

 

I'm a lover of LBs, and have walked with them holding hands, hugging them and intimate moments on the Baht bus

Try letting your hair down a bit and cutting the "arse" out of your shorts so your butt cheeks are exposed ,that's one thing i love doing and see how many cat calls you get ,that i dont mind,because any guys whistling to my middle aged 120kilo body are welcome and it means the butt clenching exercises have been working,but i do the draw the line at being spat in the face and feeling threatened by groups of young hoodlums.

Unfortunately, the low life scum that used to frequent places like Spain have now been introduced to LOS.

 

Over the past 7 years that I have been coming to Los ( at least twice a year `) I have noticed the change..and it's all bad.

 

Bigots will be bigots where ever they go.......so much for travel widening your horizons..mostly I think it widens the gap between their ears and it is filled with booze.

There is actually a little vitriol posted on PA about the gay scene, though as most BM's are focussed on discussing the good times in Pattaya it's not as big an issue as you might expect in this condensed little community. Just as there is criticism of older men visiting Pattaya, scorn poured on the ladyboy scene, and individuals who think the only good thing in Pattaya are the Go-Go bars. It's all here somewhere.

 

I'm afraid Sydney that no matter where you wander in the world you'll come up against homophobes. Whether created by the religion, culture, or social background of these people, everywhere you go you will meet some people who are abusive. You can legislate equality and civil rights until we're all blue in the face, it won't change the basic fact that some humans have no tolerance for anyone different from themselves.

 

Pattaya is no different, and may be slightly worse, being a location where the scene attracts people who already operate outside what is generally accepted to be the social norm. People do not leave their prejudices at home when they travel overseas, they take them along for the ride, much as you admit to doing with the 'older farangs' and their friends. A bigot at home home will always be a bigot in Pattaya too.

 

My own rather strict upbringing and the moral atmosphere that I breathed as a young man would have made me a dyed-in-the-wool homophobe myself. Luckily for me my life experiences have been a little more diverse than most and the sharp edges of my childhood have been ground away. I'm sure I'd still feel a little uncomfortable watching a gay couple getting over-intimate in public, I don't necessarily like watching a BG getting pawed in public either, but revulsion or anger would not be a factor these days.

 

It's part of life mate, and is likely to continue to be so for many decades to come. Until the point comes when the human race can put aside its innate ability to hate for no logical reason you're always going to cop some flack for being gay.

 

Best thing you can do - relax and enjoy your holidays, feel sorry for the small minds, and try not to let the bigotry get under your skin.
