Best internet in Pattaya

Recommended Posts

I used a Happy DTAC dongle in Phuket and found Skype call to be impossible (2 to 4 second delays).

The same card here in Pattaya is quite a bit faster but still not good enough for Skype and I can't even stream Youtube.

I've heard about 3BB, True and Sopon but I'd like some oppinions as to which is best speed/value.

I'm up high in Nurin big condo facing the beach.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Just a suggestion that may help. To check your Internet speed go to http:speedtest.net/ When the page loads...Click on Begin Test.....you should get Download Speed, Upload Speed and Ping Time. Currently Mine is 6.05Mb/s, 0.38Mb/s and 32ms. This is ADSL with TOT. You will also get a performance summary compared with other ISP providers.

I also have an ADSL "dongle"...this is for 3G..OK in Bangkok...have 3G. In Pattaya IT IS 2G...hence so slow. ADSL or IntCafe may be best options, or wireless..Starbucks/ Tukkom...other places??

Cheers

My setup... for faster downloads and stability

Two adsl lines from two different providers*

Going into a balanced loaded router...

Which goes off to a non managed gigabyte switch (for fast network)

Then a separate wifi router plugged into it.

*I am still waiting for second line to be installed

I'm afraid that this is about the best you will get with a cell phone connection. It's via a 2G connection and this is about the same speed as an antiquity called a modem.

Even with a 3G connection, the speed will be slower than an ADSL connection.

I can only advice you to try to get a ADSL connection over a fixed line or connect to a wifi connection in the neigbourhood.

I think True offer the most reliable service, though I believe Sophon are making their mark these days. The main 'problem' with all of them is that they require you to sign a 12 month contract with a fee for breaking it, although not a problem if you live here.

This is probably a dumb question, but do they not have cable connections in Thailand?

All I hear about is ADSL which is notoriously slower than cable.

Yes Sophon do cable up to 10 Mbit/s. 3BB advertise 20 Mbit/s ADSL on their website not sure if it's available in Patts.

It's odd that the ADSL people are claiming double the speed of the cable dudes.

Here in Canada they can't even come close.

Here's my 2 connections. (Telus being the ADSL guys)

I guess I'm just going to have to test it for myself.

Pretty poor really for cable internet, but it suits my purpose, I still manage to live stream TV programs from Oz a lot of the time.

I forgot to say that i pay around 2300bahts/month for this "16Mbits", if u guys can do the same, i would like to compare and maybe change my provider...

why paying for 16mbits if i can't get more than 8 !

Test with London's (UK) server:

Test with Clifton's (USA) server:

Test with Aubervilliers's(France) server:

So it looks like the speed is almost the same for BKK, USA and UK, except for the France's server which seems to be a bit slower (unfortunately i'm french :P)

Thanks for the speed tests guys. It would be useful if you could test your bandwidth to an overseas server eg UK or USA

To be fair, different servers have different speeds even from within the same country.

I would love that cable speed. I get 3.58Mbs on ADSL 2 plus .... just think of the quality if I could get 22 Mbs

There are some that only employ words for the purpose of disguising their thoughts.
