Guys is there anywhere in Pattaya where you can buy an external hard drive preloaded with movies(recent ones if poss). Can this be done by shops in Patts? Hoping it may be available somewhere. Cheers.

I am no tech-head and I need a few questions answered if someone would know...

I have about 250 DVDs or more...movies,favourite TV shows/sporting/music etc and want to store it all on an external or portable hard drive...question is...how many movies(assuming most movies are about 100 minutes long) would fit on say a 1Tg external hard drive.

The reason I ask is that I want to put everything on an external hard drive so that I can go from place to place and just plug in the HD via USB to a TV and watch anything that I choose...is this feasible or make any sense?

there's really no way to answer that question accurately without knowing how much data is actually on the disks. retail dvd's can hold as much as 9gb's on a disk, but most movies do not take up all that space. It's not so much the length of the film, but how it was encoded (how much compression was used) and how much extra crap there is on it.

I'd guess you could fit about 125-150 dvd's, but that's a very rough estimate

If you want to fit more, you can use a free program like dvdshrink. it's very easy to use, it'll allow you to remove all the extras, and just save the movie- and you could have it save direct to the external. it would also allow you to recompress the dvd's down to 4.7gb each (and perhaps less when the extras are removed) but it takes a bit of time to recompress all the files, probably a lot more time than you'd want to spend.

Many thanks for your very helpful reply!

Tukcom

I've seen external HDs everywhere but not preloaded.

Do you know which floor and which store?

Do you recall price i.e. how much more they were than an empty one?

Thanks.

You'll have to ask Bagwan or Mr H. I know they both have them and Mr H deffo bought his in Tukcom.

I must admit I was tempted as they had all the HD films on (blue ray quality)

They don't like water though :D
