6 month or 2 yr visa for UK tourist visa

I want to get my Thai girlfriend a UK tourist visa, she has never had a UK visa before , but she has been to Europe once.

is it better to get a 6 month tourist visa or a 2 year visa, I believe with the 2 year visa she can come and go as she wishes over 2 years as long as she is not in Uk over 6 months in each year, is that correct ?

Would it be easier to get a 6 month or 2 year visa for her? as her first UK visa

I have known her for 5 yrs and we have a 4 month old son. we are not yet married. I would like to take the child with us , he should have a Thai and British passport by then to enable him to come to UK.

Are there any other tips anyone has in oder to help getting the visa, and what do you think are our chances given our circumstances.

many thanks, and happy new year

I would very much doubt you will be issued with a 2 year visa at your first attempt.

Hi mate,

You've got two hopes of getting the 2 year visa, bob hope & no hope. Try for the 6 month visa first.

No need to use a visa agent, the 5 criteria are:

1. Proof of relationship (letters, phone records, pictures, porn pictures etc)

2. Proof of sponsorship, or that you have the funds to support her during her holiday.

3. Reason for her to return (job to return to, along with letter from her boss stating she has a job to return to, owns property / business).

4. Reason for her to return (kids aren't).

5. Reason for her to return (works in a bar isn't good enough).

Good luck.

Peace. :GoldenSmile1:

Bargirls do get visa's. I personnally know a girl who works in a bar and got a letter from her falang employer stating her job was available upon her return and she has been issued a visa twice.

OK point taken, but I was trying to hammer a point home.

UK immigration ain't stupid though. Works in a bar & 'work bar' are two totally different things. Better to ask a 'friend' who works in a hotel or salon to write the letter I think.

Disagree: that's asking for trouble when the ECO checks the letter out. One strike against = no visa for a very long time.

Well, what's the alternative?

A scrawled illegible letter from an alcoholic mamasan stating that she works illegally in a bar for 3000B per month cash in hand + whatever she can get for fucking falang, or a letter in Loie from mama, stating that of course she's welcome to come back to her 200B per day 'work rice' job?

Peace. :GoldenSmile1:

Girls can work as cashiers in bars also, and they do get visas.

Probably the worst post concerning applying for a visa. Lie in your application at your peril. My friend did and failed in his application as it was checked.

My girl had no letter from an employer stating she had a job to return to and for a fact, she's here now in England. At the point of application she was jobless and simply classed as farm worker. Some employers in thailand simply will never give this letter of return work because 'holiday' and 'time off' are an alien concept to some (maybe most)thai employers.

The UK immigration are open minded. Honesty and proof of relationship over 1 year, sponsorship (and a letter explaining why) and maybe a shared bank account with a tidy sum is all i needed.

Having processed over 400 applications I can tell you the most common reason for refusal of a Tourist visa is reason to return to your host country.

You are unemployed & have little or no assets which may encourage your presence in Thailand, this is a common quote.
