Is booking necessary?

I plan to arrive Jan 8th & maybe leave on Jan 12th. Im not sure. Maybe stay a week if you guys think its too little time.....i will be spending the rest of my vacation in a different part of asia. This will also be my first time....im kinda under the impression i could just get a taxi to the Walking Street area & find a hotel & just get a room for a few days, but i do not know if the beginning of january is a busy travel season? P-72 or Billabong comes to mind, but im really open to any place, i guess i just want to know if i need to book in advance first, i suppose that depends on the hotel?

not many hotels on Walking Street...if its your first time id recomend booking ahead..

its a busy time of year and some popular hotels will be booked out

Billabong id popular...lots of other guesthouses in the area too
