Visa troubles....

Hey guys. So I ran into some trouble today. Here's my story...

I want to go and stay in Thailand for a year. I went down to the Thai Embassy in Washington D.C. and they told me that I could only qualify for a tourist visa, which is only 60 days! On top of that they want a return ticket. So...

I need to be in Thailand on November 17th. Can anybody give me any advice

you have to do a boarder run,or a work visa or a retirement visa

there are many options

embassy should tell you how it can be done

I want to go and stay in Thailand for a year.

There are several options, but it depends on some things:

- Are you over 50yo (whether you qualify for retirement visa)?

- Are you going to study there and willing to spend extra money (you would then qualify for non-immigrant ED visa)?

- Are you planning to work there (then you need work permit and appropriate visa)?

Most Russians I've met there who stay long-term are there for "study", studying Thai language in an accredited school. Easy to get and extend visas, but you end up paying extra to the school. On the benefits side, you do learn the language there.
