Hi, when I pass doormen etc I usually get a shortened khrup instead of sawatdee khrup. Is this standard practice or am I just missing the sawatdee part ? is it ok to just reply with khrup ?

It is equivalent to "'Sup" as in........

Khrup is just shorted way of saying sawade khrup as you can apprecaite they say a 100 times a day

I think of krab/kab with respect to a thanking someone the English equivalent of 'Ta'.

Khrap or Khap is just a way of being polite.

 

It is a ending word in many phrases in a bit formal way.
