Cable TV Monopoly

Does any one else ever wonder why UBC has such a tight control over the cable TV access in this country? We live in a city with over 10 million, a country with about 80,000,000. So why is it that I have no choice but UBC as a company delivered service in Bangkok? Or am I just unaware of the alternatives?

Here we have different companies, but they all have seperate area's. You still have one choice for cable depending on which cable company wined and dined the city counsil or gave the biggest percentage to the City. Or satelite, two systems available.
