When i'm in the LOS i like to keep in contact with family back home in UK.

I have a PAYG AIS 12 call sim card.

Is it a prefix code i can use for the best rate (cheap calls) to call a UK landlines.

Back in March i was paying 18baht per min to phone home.

The method i was useing to call was (+44) followed by the number dropping the first 0.

I was told that if you put 109 in front of the 44, then the calls were cheaper.

I'm not 100% sure on this, so maybe another BM could confirm.

I use a sip client on my droid. I have VOIP service at home, and it has 2 lines. So if there is wi-fi I can call anywhere in the world for the same flat rate. But I travel, and this service pays for istelf several times over.

The service I have as nodes in HK and the US, so I can select a node 'near' me for better service.

This set-up works great for me. And it can save you a small fortune when you consider mobile charges can be up to $2 a minute.

If your family can phone you from a UK land line to your thai sim card it usally cost 0.5 pence per minute with this number.

I used it last year texted the family to phone me and a one hour call cost about 36 pence.

0.5p/min

If you still want to use a mobile just add 008 in front of the 44, it will reduce the charge to around 8-9 baht a minute.

Skype is best though calling from a computer in Thailand to a UK land line is only 1p a minute.

if you call AIS on 1175 they will tell you their own number,(they even text you the costs and reminder number.) 00500 then add the 44 and the number,i think they said it was 5 baht a minute for landlines and 6 baht a minute for mobiles,i just prefixed all my UK numbers with it.use it all the time when calling the UK.

the 008 and 009 are a different calling company and more expensive not by much,a few baht. but cheaper than a direct +44 call
