Learning Online with SKYPE

During my first trip I spent some time using books & audio to learn the basic phrases but now im back at home im looking to kick it up a gear. I've been looking at what options are available to me,including going back to LOS next year for 3 months to enrol there which im sure would be the most enjoyable option :D but in the meantime I want to get a solid headstart either with self study or a course.

In my travels I came across a few places that offer training via SKYPE, with this one based in Bangkok looking the most credible Thai Language Hut

Anyone had any experience with these guys, and just as importantly, had any success or failure learing Thai via skype or have any thoughts onweather or not it's a viable option ?

Im assuming if the connection is good and the people on the other end reliable and competent it would be just like one on one training minus 3 senses (smell, touch, taste) ? :)

I've used skype to practice thai before, works good. There are quite a few teacher that charge around $10 an hour so it's pretty cheap as well. Sorting out the time difference can be a bit of a prob though.

Thanks for some great feedback guys. Given me more options to work with !

I saw thai podcast on youtube previously but had never been to the site. Looks a lot more comprehensive than I thought :)

Old thread, but why not comment here as this is exactly what I plan to do.

I've finally, via searches on TF and many Line conversations, found a recent college graduate (with a teaching degree) that I'm planning on trying to Skype with.

To learn Thai of course.  She's smoking hot too, so I hope that'll motivate me to stay on top of homework (no pun intended).

Curious what the going rate could be - $10 (~350B) per hour seems about right - sort of an upscale Thai massage?  Has to be easy work for her.

Considering using Paypal to pay her - have others tried this - don't know of the "gift" transfer comes with a penalty on the receiving end (again no pun intended)?

Think like a VC - fail quickly, try often
