Make sure your Power Scheme is set to Always on and that your Hard Disks are set to never shut off.

 

If you want to make sure your laptop continues to download while the lid is closed...follow the gent's directions above in Power Options....set your laptop to do nothing when the lid is closed.

 

Also, on the advanced tab, make sure your laptop is not set to hibernate.
