Where to stay in Koh Samui?

I have been to Chaweng in 2003 and had a great time. But last info i have is that the place is getting to crowded and noisy at night, due to the massive partyscene and lots of disco's a gather place for youngsters.

That's why i am looking for another beach (clean, not too crowded and ideal for a mongerer with his BG to relax on the beach) to stay for my next trip to koh samui april 2011.

At this moment am thinking of Lamai beach: have two options

Lamai buri resort = http://lamaiburiresort.com/home.html

Hathai house = http://www.hathaihousesamui.net/

Do you guys have any comment on these two or alternatives???

Or do you believe that Mae nam beach is a better option?

Any usefull info is welcome and much appreciated!

When I go Samui I always stay at Lamai beach. Much more laid back but still enough nite life and restaurants.

Stayed at these places before. Little expensive but if you go thru a travel agency in Thailand u can get better rates.

Now that is a great looking place - thanks. Lamai Wanta website

Yes this hotel looks good to me too. Same as lamai Buri resort only difference is that Lamai wanta is direct at the beach!

Do you have by any chance a website, so that i can check the place out? or maybe some pics? Couldn't find them with google. Only some reviews on tripadvisor and holidaycheck! Thanks.

Mosch,

Last year and this year, I stayed at the "The First Residence".... South Chaweng, just as you are leaving towards Lamai beach. Very clean, fairly new, and It was 1100 a night. Online rate. Forgot what site I used, but they should all be fairly close. It also has a nice pool and decent little restaurant next to the pool.... The Pina Coladas were nice....

- http://www.amitybungalow.com/index.html

no pool, but garden view house looks great for long term

- http://www.cactus-bungalow.com/

nice rooms, but Lamai has my preference as i like the center filled with beerbars.

My first option would be the Bonny hotel. It's in the heart of Lamai, close to two major discos (that are open until first rays of sunlight burst down), yet you can't hear any noise. The price at low season is 700 Baht. Been there once, would certainly go back: http://www.pattaya-addicts.com/forum/topic/21354-unix-trip-report-aprilmay/page__view__findpost__p__313310

If you want it really quiet and closer to the beach, you could try MUI Bungalow. Checkout the first few beach pictures The place is most of the time occupied by farangs from Germany or Italy. Dunno why... :unsure:

Lamai has become crowded in the last years, too. That's the reason why I recently changed my 'base camp' to Mae Nam, Bophut and Choeng Mon. These locations are quiet. I only went back to Lamai to grab some fresh LT meat (3-4 days), meet some old friends or try one of the delicious meals in the Swiss Chalet...

Just make sure that you don't pick a hotel that asks for a joiner fee. There are countless of them in Lamai...

  • 3 weeks later...

The Coconut Resort(not to be confused with the Coconut Inn) in Lamai is pretty nice, you can get a bungalow on the sand, a villa with A/C, or stay in the main building which is really fancy. It's behind the McDonald's and the main bar scene but it's secluded and very quiet. There is an outdoor weight room/gym and it's next to the Bikini Bar, which has the best jerk ribs/chicken on the Island.

"And were you pleased?" they asked Helen in Hell.

"Pleased?" answered she,when all Troy's towers fell;

And dead were Priam´s sons, and lost his throne?

And such a war was fought as none had known;

And even the Gods took part; and all because

Of me alone! Pleased?

I should say I was!"
