Why

Why is it that farangs generally take the trip to Cambodia in the mini coach organised by the Sportsman at around 2 - 2500 Baht when they need to get their visa renewned. Would it not be better to get a flight from Pattaya airport to a nearby country and stay for a few days instead. I'm sure the cost will be similar and it gives you a chance to sample diferent scenery, pussies etc and although Pattaya is fantastic, a change is as good as a rest.

Your thoughts,

How long have you lived here? How many visa runs have you done? Do you know the costs to get to another country from pattaya (Utapao airport)? it just cost me 8000baht for a return trip to Samui!!

And BTW the visa alone is about 1200baht so 2500 with breakfast etc for a 6hr roundtrip is not bad!!

I agree with you.

My first year i did the border trips, but then realized it was stupid. So every visa trip i always fly to another country and stay for a few days as a holiday.

Not only get the stamp but also get to see another country.

I would say many do border runs because its cheaper

Border run is only 2500 baht, while a trip for few days is 5 times that-food, hotel, airfare, airport taxes, etc

There are three sides to every argument: your side, my side and the right side.

Thank God I'm an atheist.

it's easy... get on the bus... sleep... wake at the border... the bus company takes care of the paperwork and slides you thru.... buy cheap booze/viagra/smokes... back on bus for lunch... home at 3. i only have to go every 90 days so its not that bad.

My question to myself is why i'm still doing these visa runs.

No more... Next year I'm doing the 1 year education visa. If you know the right people, you don't even have to attend the school and it costs about the same as your Laos/Cambo visa runs without the hassle. Plus, you don't loose your current visa if you decide to leave Thailand to visit a nearby country. You still have to check in with immigration in Jomtien but you don't have to pay 1900. If you go the "normal" education visa route, you have to do 4 hours of school a week and still pay 1900 every 90 days in Jomtien.

The way they are cracking down on tourist visas, I wouldn't be surprised if in 2-3 years your only options will be an ED visa unless you qualify for one of the other long term visas.

Not sure a cracking down on tourist visas (already happened to large extent), with the number of people talking about/applying for Education Visas, I think this is where the crackdown wil be.

Ref the OP, when you compare a 4 day trip to Cambodia (PP) at a relatively modest 12k, 2.5k is not bad for a visa run, and you are back in by 2.30pm.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that they are cracking down on these ED visas now too,it was written somewhere that when you go to Jomtien they will test you on your Thai to make sure that you are doing the lessons and learning Thai.

If you aren't learning Thai then end of visa.

And I pay 1,800 bt for my visa run and enjoy the day out, take a book, sleep and relax,no problems at all.

The last time I went to Samui it was still a Thai island and I was not aware that it had been sold to another country. I bow to your greater intelligence. When I went last I was with my two sons and the return trip from Bangkok, with Bangkok Airways for all three of us, cost less then you paid. It also seems to make a lot more sense to get a multi entry visa at around £120 per year, which extends your stay to 90 days rather than the normal 30, so it only requires atrip out of the country four times a year, or three times if you time the visa to kick in after you have been there 30 days

Guys hold your horses, I do believe bagwan only mentioned samui for the price differences compeard to a border run, and that it most probably would be even more expensive to go ACROSS the border by plane.

And not suggest that samui is a different country.
