Put copied movies on your laptop.

Just thought about something.

There are a lot of guys who sell copied movies (on the streets/in Tukcom/other places).

Can these guys also put movies on the hard-drive of your computer, against a small refund?

The problem is, that taking these movies back home is kind of difficult because of customs. Furthermore, me and other people

are maybe not that much into downloading.

Computers can easily be connected by USB. On a harddrive can a lot of movies be stored.

google .. "magic DVD ripper" .. you can backup almost any dvd to your hard disk (so long as its legal to do so of course), takes up about 1Gb per average movie for an avi file.

You could buy an external drive with the movies on it already. Pick up a copy of Pattaya Trader from Friendship Supermarket (or wherever you see it). There is a guy that advertises them in there.

Going through the customs with a copied DVD is exactly the same as having the movie on your hard drive.

Remember that customs can look in your computer (and even keep it as long as they want to search for deleted files).

There is a new regulation in USA for this ! You'd better had nothing wrong on your computer going through any custom in any country (and never had anything wrong because they can recover it).

If you're going through the USA, please, read this. Be aware !

WTF is that! Man, what ever happened to having a search warrant or probable cause! So I suppose that if I take my work laptop which is encrypted in compliance with corporate policy they are going to take it and ship it off to the NSA for "analysis" I'd bet my employer would go nuts if that happened, the way they are with IT security nowadays.

Maybe I will just pull the hard drive out and run off the KNOPPIX boot disk storing everything I want to save online, toss the boot disk in the trash can on the way off the plane and laugh at them when I hand them a empty computer that won't even boot!

Guess that they never heard of the Bill of Rights

* Fourth Amendment – Protection from unreasonable search and seizure.

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

That's an option... unless you find a good internet connexion in Thailand that would enable you to upload a movie.

As my computer stores many personal informations on it, when I go away, I take off the hard drive and replace it with a spare one design for travelling. This is just in case it's stolen somewhere, I don't loose much, nobody can get my email, my credit card number that could be stored somewhere in the cash...

So when I go through the custom, my computer is just new with only a new OS on it... They can do whatever they want with it...

Lol, the way a lot of posters are jumping around on this forum about these types of regulations (Aus as well), I can only assume they have lots of bad shit on their laptops? Simple really, when you travel don't have any bad shit! It's just another power as well, it's not going to happen to everyone who takes a laptop through customs, chill guys and lets not get paranoid eh?
