Cafe Uno

Recommended Posts

Can anyone tell me what's happening at the old Cafe Uno on Soi Khoa Noi ? I understand it was sold last month and is now all signed up as World of Sport but I haven't seen a sign or anything about when it's re-opening.

Anyone have any info ?

Finally the World of Sports Restaurant and Bar has opened it doors!

Some changes have been made to the place that was formerly the wellknown Cafe Uno:

The terrace features a large sofa, most of the round tables are square now and covered with red-white plastic covers.

Inside there is a large flat screen TV and an overhead projector. The walls are decorated with some framed pictures from sport events, etc.

The major change has been made to the menu, which is now a 50+ page book (ok, it is written in large letters and has lots of pics in it) and consists of English, Mexican, German, Italian, Thai and Indian food (did I miss out on a country?).

Didn't see any Paininis on the menu, could have overlooked them.

On the drink list you will find lots of additions like shakes, smoothies, cocktails, etc.

Prices seems to be a notch higher, Pizza starting from 230 Baht for a Margerita, Burger with fries or jacket potato from 170, Espresso 65 Baht.

Had some Nachos with chicken and cheese (150 Baht), not bad but nothing to write home about and a milk shake (75 Baht).

There is a happy hour from 4 to 7 p.m. with a pint of Heineken @ 59 Baht.

I was enjoying my food while watching a rerun of the spelling competitions on ESPN but I think this will change in the next days with the world cup coming up, as they stated that the matches will be shown in HD quality and they will open till 4 a.m.

I wish them good luck, as all new restaurants on the dark side need it, but I miss Cafe Uno.

The menu selection is too much. I would not trust that they can cook such a large variety in a decent quality and have it all available fresh. Second who will want to go through a 50 page menu ?

Was thinking the same and when going through the menu, it was a bit of a head spinner.

Once you figure out what type of food is in which part on the menu it will get easier.

They should make it a bit easier to overview for the firsttimers.

I like Mexican food and with only few places that serves it (non of them being on the dark side) this will be a pro for me visiting them again.

I was thinking of going to Cafe Uno today. Damn. Anyone have reviews of this new place?

I agree with the above comments that a menu too large means

a) too many food items required, so freshness and quality is an issue

b) too many items means the skillset of the chef/cook will be too great to cook them to a high standard.

I would expect the food to taste average now.
