Anyone fly China air from the US to BKK? How bad are they? I've read a lot of bad reviews but right now they have the cheapest fares from the US. Might just have to eat it and fly Thai damn fares are still sky high!!

Update****** nevermind- just booked on thai, they had some upgraded economy specials going.

For future info. I have used China air several times and only had one problem. That was with a connecting flight

Good service every time. I fly out of LAX so the choices are great. China's prices have always been the best.

They have now added a $140 fuel surcharge. Bastards!

I've used China Air Numerous times on the Honolulu-BKK route and have been very pleased with them. Great fares, good food, cute flight attendants, and always on time. In seat entertainment with numerous choices. Too bad they recently changed their routing, so I would now have a 16 hour layover in taipei. Will be flying JAL now

If you Goog China airline, you will find that they have one of the worst record on plane crashes. Most of the crashes are between Asian countries and not between U.S to Asia if that helps.

There's a big difference between China Air and Air China, so make sure you are googling the correct airline! Air china is from Mainland China and has a very poor record. China Air is Taiwanese, and has a much "better" record.

Actually I was talking about China Airline, the official airline of Taiwan. When I was working in Taiwan, I have seen 6 plane crashes in a 8 year time frame however all of them were from other Asian countries to Taipei.

If you want to feel like you are strapped in a baby seat, fly China Airlines. This was the worst flight I have ever taken in my life. And the food they server, I wouldn't feed it to a dog!!!

it is not in the same league as Singapore Airlines or Cathay Pacific but decent enough, at least as good as Thai Airways

I like China Airlines but maybe that is because I mostly have experience with US airlines for comparison.

FWIW I just booked with them for my September trip, SFO-BKK for $855 total booked via vayama.com

If you are concerned about China Air’s safety, you can make up your mind by checking Accident Rates By Airline

According to the stats this is incorrect.

  • 4 weeks later...

I have flown China Air from Honolulu to Bangkok a couple times. China Air was the cheapest to fly. The in flight entertainment had a lot movies. I have never flown the route with the long stopover in Taipei. It is too long. I rather spend that time in Thailand, not in an airport.

I fly JAL now since China Air prices have been higher than JAL. Their service is great. The flight attendants, both Japanese and Thai are great to look at too. I got bumped a couple times. The first time I got bumped, I was upgraded to business class. The second time, I was put on an earlier flight. So I got to Bangkok 4 hours early.

Will be flying China Air come August 25th, they got 4 stars on some review sight and with the price I got at the time was the cheapest, which equals to more money to spend to help the Thai economy. Good to read that no one really had a bad experience.

I'll be flying China Airlines out of LAX on Aug 28th. This is the 3rd time and I have no complaints about the other 2 times that I've flown China Airlines out of LAX.

I like China Air. I have flown with them from LAX to BKK 4 times , never any problems. Was fortunate to have good weather so no delays whatsoever. I thought the food was great, just my opinion. Each seat had it's own monitor for movies and games. The one time I flew American it was horrible. My ticket had not been properly confirmed and I just barley made my flight out of BKK. They had to put me thru some special line and I was pretty much escorted to the gate. I would like to try another airline, but China Air always has the best price. I am flying with them in September. The red-eye out of LAX gets you into BKK late morning. I go out mongering that night after a nap.
