I want to buy a new car...info please

slightly

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys

I am looking to buy a car in May.

I have heard that second hand cars are very expensive, so I am enquiring about buying a new one.

I am leaning towards a small car due to the obvious hazards of driving in Pattaya, so can anyone give me some info please:

Inparticular:

Honda Jazz

Toyota Yaris

Chevrolet Matiz

Please give me an idea of prices / warranty / dealerships in Pattaya region

Any info on larger vehicles & quality 2nd hand dealers would be appreciated.

Thanks

slightly

I've been looking at buying a car as well but the low pound has put me off for a while.

There are 2 Toyota dealers and 1 Honda and 1 Chevrolet dealer on the Suvhumvit Road, going out of town towards Bangkok.

The Yaris and Vios start about 550,000 baht up to about 700,000. My preference was the Honda City, a lovely looking car with a massive boot, starts at 519,000. All have good 3 year warranties. Buying new is IMO a better option as even a 7-10 year old car with 100,000 kms will cost 300,000 +. Could you trust a second hand car salesman in Thailand?

My other problem was getting finance in my name, namely I couldn't unless guaranteed by a thai person. Paying all up front with the pound at 48 didn't seem a good idea.

I would suggest the pick up models.

Not only its cheaper but bigger and has more use.

Like Toyota Hilux, Isuzu Dmax

"Working" cars have less tax, so its better value for money

Sorry have no idea where they are, but their contact details are on the website http://www.expatmotors.co.th/map.html

I think they in Bangkok, but it gives you an idea on prices. So you can go to other dealers around Pattaya and see what prices you can get-may be can get a better price :P

Last year I bought my Toyota in Bangkok, because the local dealers (2 In Patts and 1 in Chonburi) declined my request for a discount. Some offered just all extras and not even a 1 year free A-class insurance.

From the dealer in Bangkok I got all extras, 1 year A-class insurance free, plus 22 K discount.

With the smart card you are still entitled to get the free service at any dealer in LOS.

Toyota has 75 dealers in Bkk, so it’s worth to shop around.

There are a few new cars on Thai market such as Nissan March Eco Car which apparently is better specs then others in its class and starting price is 375K http://www.nissan.co.th/march/main.html

Also Proton Savy around 399K http://www.protonthailand.com/index.php?action=savvy_price〈=en

Does anyone have any info on car financing?

We want to buy a car but want to pay it off during a couple of years. Do we have to live in Thailand to be able to do that?

Do we have to show proof of income from Thailand? Or is proof from Europe enough?

Went to the Pattaya dealer today and did a short test drive. Nice to drive. The hight adjustable driver seat is great as my GF is 45 cm shorter than me and gets a good seating position as well.

The only disadvantage compared to other models in this class I see in the little knee space for rear passenger, but I usually don't have any, so I don't care.

Till end of the month they have a promotion and offered me for the basic model with auto gear free 1st class insurance, tinted windows (film), 500 Baht of gas and rear parking sensors (guess this promotion will be valid for the other models as well).

Will go for the 5 door as I don't need the large trunk. Way shorter and should be handy as parking space becomes dearer downtown.

Read many test reports about this car and there were few negative points only.

I have just requested the Mazda brochure.

I like what you are asying & I will look for your info on the Mazda.

So you got the extras thrown in for the basic model Mazda 2 for 535,000.

Is that right?

I might now need a bit more room, so I might look at the Sedan

If you went for the Sedan do you think they would still have given you the extras.

Where is the Pattaya dealership?

if its on Sukhumvit, can you give me a rough idea where.

Let me know how things develope

I got the offer for the basic model with automatic gear, priced at 570,000. (The 4 door sedan would be 564000 with automatic). Not sure for which model what extras are on offer, as the top model for example has the parking sensors already, but I think these extras should be in the promotion for the sedan as well, whether it is manual gear or auto.

As I am paying cash - not financing - there might be even more room to negotiate for extras. I asked if I get alloys for free, but the dealer declined. Let' see. While it is usually difficult (or with some dealers impossible) to get cash discounts, there is always the possibility to get some accessories.

Forgot to mention that the tax for one year was included as well, but have to pay for registration and license plates about 3,500 Baht. Downpayment for reservation is 2,000 only.

One gets with Mazda the free labour for service for 1k, 10k, 20k and 30k km as well, only need to pay for oil etc.

The Mazda dealer is on Sukumvit road, driving from Pattaya center in direction to Bangkok around 3-5 km on the right side. Hardly to miss.

Talked to the Mazda dealer about financing (think other dealers should give the same info):

As a foreigner you need to show a work permit or you have to have a Thai guarantee for you, who has to show proof of income.
