How to do a boarder run from Mae Sai.A step by step photo guide

 

Hi all,

This was my first boarder run from the northern town of Mae Sai

 

Get yourself to the Mae Sai bus station.

 

Hop onto a red bus which will take you right to the boarder for 15bt

 

This is the boarder,you can't miss it.

 

Go to immigration and go to the passport control window and hand over your passport and get stamped out of Thailand.

You won't have to fill out any forms as they use the departure card which is stapled to your passport which was filled out when you entered Thailand.

 

Cross the bridge

You've now reached Burma

 

Keeping to the right hand side of the bridge you come to the Immigration office of Burma. Don't worry as the guy who is turning away from the camera with his hands in his pockets will see that your a Farlung and will direct you to the passport room for processing. This room is no bigger than a bedroom,"no exaggeration" where there will be two desks and 5-6 officers waiting to greet you.One officer will look at your passport and then hand it to the next, and then hand it to the next. You'll be asked how long do you want to stay, "just say in and out". They will then ask for 500bt and hand you a blank entry permit together with your passport and told to wait in front of the second desk.

At the second desk they will take your photo with a webcam and copy your details like name,DOB,nationally,ect from your passport to the entry permit, therefore creating a entry permit along with a photo. You will be told that you can pick up your origional passport when you exit.

Welcome to Burma.You'll be offered everything from cheap cigarettes, cheap Viagra to cheap women.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

When your ready, head back over the bridge and you'll come to the Burma Immigration checkpoint. Just follow the signs to the right that read foreigners out

 

 

This is where you hand in your entry permit and recive your passport back all ready stamped in and out of Burma.

 

Keep walking over the bridge until you reach Thailand again. Go to the Thailand immigration, fill out a new entry and departure form and get stamped back into Thailand. If you have any kind of Visa this will be sorted out at this point. Check your stamps for any mistakes before leaving.
