"The "Thai Basic Reader" has been used as a one of a reading texts at FSI for many years. Later, it was used as supplementary textbook for self-study.

The original textbook was developed by Thomas W. Gething and Pongsuwan T. Bilmes (Revised 1992 with CD Sound), University of Hawaii."

I'm working my way through these at the moment, I read that the AUA schools use them as material.

There are around 56 mp3 lessons with accompanying 'reader' pdf's in thai script for each and explanations in english to the keywords. They're bitesize lessons, only around 2-8 minutes each based on an aspect of Thai culture, society, history, or geography with mostly spoken thai used, I think even if you're not familiar with script they make quite good listening practice.

This was a website rip but I sorted the metatags, made some artwork and used better filenames so it's a little more organized. It's just under 300mb.

Great post Herds! Thanks, downloading now. The FSI courses were the second set that I used when I was studying Thai.I found it a bit old fashioned and repetitive but also very thorough. I'm looking forward to playing with the software.

Just downloaded it. I misunderstood, it's a Thai Course, but not the old one that I used. I like it, I think it's great for anybody who reads Thai script. . Thanks again.

Yeah it's audio with reading accompaniment. I'm not sure what level it is aimed at as I don't really know about those things but i'd say if you've finished or are currently using the benjamin becker intermediate thai readers then you should be able to start this ok, the later lessons do get pretty tough with lots of obscure words.
