Fiance' Visa For TGF to come to the US

I am starting the long process to obtain a visa for m TGF to come to the US to get married and live here with me. I figure this is going to take a year or so while we compile the documentation and actually prepare the application. Has anyone ever gone thru the process that has a child with their girlfriend? I am curious what impact that has on the visa process. I would imagine that you would need to show proof that you are the father.
