Want to thank all for the advice I have read. Will be in Pat nov.6 and will be buying phone there with Sim card. My question is : I know, by what I have read, how to send a SMS message to North America, but how do they respond back? Do they have to use +66 in front of my Thai number or what?

Yes bro, they will have to use +66 then drop the first zero of your Thai number

No, don't have to use the "+" sign in front of the 66, just 66, and drop the "0" at the start of your Thai number. I text my fiance there almost everyday and that's how it's done.

If the number is stored in international format(1) then most cell phones will dial it automatically according to to cell phone's current location:

examples: +66(2)555-1234, +66(1)555-1234, +66(8)555-1234

These numbers might commonly be shown as:

555-1234, 1-555-1234, 8-555-1234,

or

(02)555-1234, (01)555-1234, (08)555-1234

or

(0)25 551 234, (0)15 551 234, (0)85 551 234

or

+66(02)555-1234, +66(01)555-1234, +66(08)555-1234

or

+66(0)25 551 234, +66(0)15 551 234, +66(0)85 551 234

There is a later edition available but that is the one I have at handy. It states that Bangkok's system is 7 digits with 6 digits used in other parts of the country. I would suspect the 6 digit systems may have been replaced in the last ten years. Then again I have seen some of the communications cabling in Pattaya so all bets are off.

Didn't work for me. I had to use 0066 & yes drop the zero before your Thai number.

i.e 006607791 becomes 00667791.

Peace. :GoldenSmile1:

Sorry, but the OP and I are both Canadian, and I was responding directly to his question as to how to text him in Thailand from here. Will probably only work like that from Canada, not other areas of the world.
