Hypothetical question for anyone that might know.

 

My thai gf is investigating doing au-pair nanny work in the USA.

 

Can someone working in the USA on a J-1 au-pair visa marry a US citizen? Does this make a mess of things trying to change their status if they marry?

 

My understanding is normally marriage is done using a K-1 marriage visa.

 

Thanks for any info or thoughts on this subject.
