If you have/had blood clots in your lungs i.e. Pulmonary Embolism, then I'm assuming your on Warfarin so you will need your INR checked regularly so you dont bleed out. This is normally done on a weekly basis, but it does vary on personal circumstances. Something to keep in mind is that if you intent to drink heavily (more than 3 standard drinks a day) this will interfere with the medication. I would advise you to talk with your doctor about this before you leave.

Also if you plan on taking Viagra or something similar I would also talk to your doctor about this while taking warfarin.

On where to go I would take SlickMonkey's advice and go to the Hospital

Is the clot in the lower leg? Are you injecting warfarin into the stomach daily?

Doc's aren't really worried about blood clots in the lower leg (below the knee) as these rarely embolise. clots above the knee and especially in the pelvis are the ones to be worried about. also he is most likely on warfarin tablets like coumadin.

Exactly, thats why i asked if they were in the lower leg, as my mum is just having the same problem. Luckily for her its in the lower leg, she mistook them as cramps to start with. She will have to inject herself forever now.

PIH is ok, but the doctors in the emergency room at least can be hit or miss.

If money isn't such a big deal, I would go to Bangkok Pattaya Hospital. But, you may just find a lab clinic that does good work and cut out the middle man.

Are you sure she's on warfarin? Most commonly it is prescribed as a tablet for outpatient situations. if not get her to ask the doc for the tablet instead, to avoid injections.

Thanks for the information .

I am on Warfarin.

I have been told by a number of doctors that It would be ok to fly as long as I walk around hourly.

I will be talking to lung specialist soon.

The blood clots are in my lungs.

I dont drink so that will not be a problem.

The trip is 3 months away.

I am still waiting for an email reply from Pattaya international hospital

But has anyone flown with blood clots? Or had a lab test done in pattaya.

Pattaya International is a bahtbus away, while Bangkok Pattaya can only be reached with a taxi.

I mean if cost is a consideration.

Thanks arnold Ziffell,

The price is not really the problem. Were you satisfied with the hospital? I s that hospital new and clean or should I just have it done in Bangkok?

So have you flown with blood clots. ?

seeing as the clots are already in your lungs, they aren't going to move. They wont get any bigger as your on warfarin. So you shouldn't have any worries flying. If you had Deep Vein thrombsis (DVT) then yes you should be concerned as flying would most likely make these larger and greater risk of embolising into your lungs again. But if you get up and walk around on the plane regularly, wear compression stockings, you shouldn't have any problems.

My dad spends 80% of his time in Pattaya and is on Warfarin, he goes for his blood tests at the "Dr Mongkol Clinic" Moo 12, Thappraya Rd. He rates them.

I'm surprised that the docs have allowed you to fly after having cots in your lung.

I say this I had 5 clots in my lungs back in 2005. I was on warfarin for 2 years and every day for a years i had to have blood test at the local hospital. For the 1st year i could not go abroad!

From my experience, my advice is make sure you are completely safe to travel and tell the lung specialist that you are going on a long haul flight.

I'm sure Patts International Hosp or Bangkok Patts have the necessary equipment to do a komidar blood tests, however for a correct answer you will need to speak with them direct.

be safe.

i have been to the bangkok pattaya hospital and i was amazed how knowledgable the staff were and how clean and nice the hospital was. I always thought the PIH was the cheaper option?
