Tip for price negotiations: offer, don't ask.

For me, "My room is 5 minutes away, and I have 1000 (or 1500) baht, is that ok" works far better than an open ended "how much". First part is to signal you aren't a difficult client, they've seen plenty of those. 

If she opens too high, you're kind of stuck, and negotiating her down hard could spoil her mood, even if she accepts. Oddly, a freelancer who opens up at 3k and gets talked down to 2k will be less happy than if you open up at 1k and agree to 1.5k. If she doesn't bite, you can always smile, be apologetic and walk away, then ask again later (she might even call you as you pass by). 

This works really well with freelancers, but also in some bars. You need to have the rough idea of the going rate, and offer at the lower end of the range, to show you're not clueless (i.e. don't offer 1000 baht in a 3000 baht venue).

If the girl is good, you can always tip (or better, repeat). This is not about underpaying the girls, just starting off well. 

Another unrelated tip from when I was younger, asking for two shots often worked well for me. I'd often get it for the same price as the regular ST or slightly higher (but never double). Kind of tells you how ready the girl is to stick around and do a good job. These days, my refractory period is longer, so I lean into the "easy client" angle. The times might have also changed compared to 10 years ago, I wonder if this still works.

yeah i usually do similar. low-normal range and play the "wait payday that's all i got" card if they quote high. then walk. sometimes they come around. HOWEVER, if i'm really keen i'm just 'yeah whatever' and pay it lol. 

lead with standard offer on TF also. in Patts that's mid-normal (1,500) because i'm usually going for the younger hotter ones. bkk my usual 2k opener has landed low these days, but not so low they won't quote back 3 or 4k. those that think those rates are too damn high aren't going for the same type of girl. perhaps anyone who complains can direct me to their type so i can ruin the market for them, too?

It does!

I still do it like that and having a high positive ratio. If a lady refuses it's better to watch out for the next one.

As you already mentioned, it is very likely she will try to rush things and not provide the best service.
