Hey guys I'm wondering what kinds of internet speeds you've encountered in Pattaya and in Thailand in general. If i were to rent an apartment what would my wifi most likely be? What are speeds like in internet cafes and at hotels? Thanks!

some of the internet cafes are pretty fast, feels like 4 to 6 Mb, fine for browsing and skype. wifi isnt so fast in general but ok for browsing, suffers from periodic dropouts , the dns servers seem to dropout a lot.

O you who turn the wheel and look to windward, Consider Phlebas, who was once handsome and tall as you.

You cannot just by your speed to Bangkok. On the cheaper plans the speed in Thailand will be ok but the international bandwidth will be limited. I have TT&T Premier and here is my speed test for Bangkok and then to London. When I had the cheaper Indy package my speed in Thailand would be good but I could not doing anything on the internet internationally.

Usually my up speed is better. This is at 11:30pm in Thailand so probably still quite a few people on the internet, it gets better at night.

Internet cafes usually have really good speed. hotels and condos vary. If I were to rent I would get a place that had something other then TOT and the owner would allow me to pay extra to upgrade to a better package if needed.

I always use opendns in Thailand because of the flaky dns servers. If you click on a link and it won't load, but then you click on it a moment later or refresh and it works then you have probably experienced bad dns server. Here is the website that will give you instructions on how to configure your computer.

ahh cool good advice. I've used some different dns servers in the past just as experimentation but never really understood their purpose... until now.
