So the 60 day visa exempt didn't start June 1st as we expected, now saying it will be early July? Lets assume it does for the sake of my question!  I arrive 26th June so will have my passport stamped 30 days, if I wanted to stay on another 30, do you think I would need another stamp/visa ext, or do you think it would just be accepted as then being 60 from my date of entry?....hypothetical I know at the moment....

It's whatever you entered on, regardless of anything enacted while you're already in country. I would just get the METV to be safe and not have to worry about it.

Whatever your visa gets stamped as will most likely be what you get, even if they start stamping 60 days the day after you arrive.

There was a whole thread (5 pages) of people giving advice on something none of us can actually answer. Do we need another one?

Apologies my man, I looked for the answer to my question.. but obviously failed, what a tit!

Nobody on this earth can answer your question. As of right now there has been no changes in Thai immigration law

Actually if you read his question it is not a hard one to answer based on previous experience.

In no case that I am aware in the past when they changed the visa or visa exempt period like from 30 to 45 days did they ever backdate the change, therefore it is highly unlikely that they will do it again.  The stamp on the date of entry is the number of days you have unless you extend it by one of the usual methods.

The question not being answered by anyone (because assumption levels are so high) is when the 60 day visa exempt does come into force (and it obvioiusly will) will that visa exempt entry still be extendable by 30 days ?

Everyone assumes it will. I simply dont think it will for the simple reason it makes the SETV completely obsolete and that application fee funds embassies and consulates around the world (along with other visa applications obviously) albeit SETV must account for 80% of income.....in 35 years of visiting I've only ever had interactions with Cardiff and London for SETV requirements

I think the 60 wont be extendable and is part introduced to take pressure off immigration whilst incountry whilst also boosting tourism

I could be completely wrong but will be watching carefully

The obvious answer is that no one knows until the regulations are issued.  Guessing what the Thai government will do is worthless.  Just monitor the Internet for updates on when the proposed changes will take effect and the actual regulations issued.

I will bet you a round you're wrong. It will be extendable (if it ever comes into effect, of course).

I agree it makes the SETV obsolete. But who would choose the visa just for that difference when you could do a border bounce instead?

On the other hand TIT and as you said "could be completely wrong but will be watching".

It would make things so much simpler if they stopped the extension of visa free entry as it can cause an issue when checking in and the airline doesn’t know you can extend by another 30 days.

At least everyone knows where they stand

But it’s Thailand, like you say and they like that extra 1900 baht (and making people queue all sodding morning at a dreary immigration office)

Agreed. But the issue would remain the same. Immigration requires you to have onward travel within whatever period you're stamped in for. That's why airlines want to see this. But 60 day exemption would certainly solve the issue for many visitors.

Thai Embassies and Consulates are simply not going to wipe out 80% (plus) of their annual income because the most applied for visa is now obsolete

Simple logic. They'll need to do a border bounce but of course thats not even a certainty any more either because the new "rules" have not been outlined in full in the Gazette

Visa exempt entry of 60 days could well be accompanied with a defined limit of exclusion thereafter maybe 30 days. We dont know

Far to much assumption as per my original point. There will be an agenda for changing from 30 to 60 days and thats not all about increased tourism.

Lets wait and see though but many others elsewhere agree with me

Wait & see what is officially announced is by far the best course of action

Asking people to guess what the RULES may be is rather pointless

Speculation is merely speculation

There’s no issue with the airlines and/or immigration … at the time of check-in one hasn’t even applied for, never mind having been granted, an extension.

The real issue is people being so stupid as to think that what’s possible, perhaps even highly probable, should be applicable even if they don’t have it at that time.  No one gives a shit if one is eligible, only if one has it or not.

Yes … and apparently they are still allowing an additional 30 day extension of applied for.

I have said on another thread. I landed yesterday and stamp 13th September visa exemption.

Well I’ve applied for the DTV, only evidence uploaded was UK bank statement with over 500,000 baht in it and a letter confirming I’m a freelancer from a company in Singapore.

fee paid and pending document check

Dont expect this to be the end of the story. I still can’t see them giving out 5 year visas with so little evidence

I flew into Bangkok two weeks ago. The 60 days was already in operation then.

As i didn't know if it would be implemented before I flew, i got an e-visa.

When I checked in at the Australian airport, the check-in girl entered my e-visa number into the system.

What was a pain is that at Bangkok immigration the official insisted on seeing my e-visa, even though the e-visa wasn't necessary.

Luckily I had a screenshot of the e-visa on my phone.
