Unique Regency - a Lottellee Winna Review

Intro - Living up in Issan I make 6-8 one or two week trips a year to Pattaya. I’m blessed with having friends and family who visit me, and on this occasion, I was meeting up with mates from the UK who had booked into the 5 star Sirin hotel on Pratumnak hill - I therefore wanted somewhere nearby. This was only a four night stay so I booked into the mid priced Unique Regency…ideally situated some 80 metres from Kinnarree Gentleman’s Club  Note if you want to spend all of your time in central Pattaya, then this wouldn’t be for you. If however you enjoy Walking Street at night and all the delights and tranquility of both Pratumnak and Jomtien then this hotel might be what you’re looking for. Video of Pratumnak soi 5…

hotel - This hotel is modern(ish), clean, with super fast WiFi and is on the best soi on Phratamnak Hill. I’m told they provide a free Shuttle Service (though I didn’t see it)in the day time and evenings to Walking Street and Central Mall. It has a decent size roof top Swimming Pool with stunning seaviews. The front desk staff are very polite and friendly. 

Location-  The location of this hotel is on Pratumnak Soi 5 - and for those, not in the know, let me tell you that there is just about everything you could want on this soi. There are three gentlemen clubs, two bars with ladies (including the excellent Hard 8 saloon), and restaurants galore. From the hotel you have a 500 metre walk down the hill to the sea - the choices for eating and drinking along the way are incredible (hi light Sands cafe at the seafront). Alternatively from the hotel going up the hill  you have 200 meters to the top and on the way there is another Gentleman’s Club and the excellent Old Rogues restaurant. From the hotel it’s a 7 minute walk to the Baht Buses, but with Bolt instant and cheap transport is always on hand to whizz you into nearby Jomtien or into Pattaya.

Check in - As you approach the hotel you really don’t get a ‘wow’ factor in terms of kerb appeal’, that said, the building itself has a sleek and modern look. The door is opened for you by a friendly concierge there is no queue at reception. The checkin process is friendly, quick, easy and efficient. I booked payment in advance with Agoda and was asked to leave 1,000 cash deposit. 

Rooms - The room design and size is very good for a hotel in this budget class. Rooms are modern and spacious at a decent 32sqm. 

The room has good closet and storage space (a real pain as in even the best hotels like Amethyst and Blackwoods all they have is a hanging rail). There is also a safe, refrigerator and flat screen smart television. For those who need to work there is a (sort of) desk, and for relaxation, two (hard) chairs.

There was enough power outlets to charge my devices. The rooms are opened by electronic cards and the key needs to be placed into the holder in your room to power the electricity. My room had a small balcony with table and chair and views across to the condo next door (the upgraded rooms have nice city/seaviews). The bed was large and comfy enough to sleep on. The AC worked well, and the toilet, bathroom and shower room are modern and well designed (free shampoo, soap, toothpaste and brush). Tea, coffee and water in room complimentary.

Room Unexpected Bonus - Wow 🤩 a full length mirror…great for narcissists like me who like to watch themselves in action 👀 😀

Room tip - the standard rooms (I think called deluxe) are fine, but if you want a view pay 100+ a night extra. 

Wifi - The WiFi signal quality is outstanding, and no need to log in every day.

Breakfast - TBH I decided that there is just so much choice elsewhere - Ogara’s Irish bar and Old Rouges do great fryup breakfasts. Pic of breakfast at Ogara Irish bar.

Facilities - The hotel has a small rooftop swimming pool with sun loungers and towels…. Best of all are the stunning Seaview all the way to Koh Larn island. There is I am told a gym (though I didn’t see it). The hotel has two speedy elevators and I never waited. 

Guest Policy - The staff are respectful to any guests you might invite back to your ‘loom’…no guest charges (for up to two joiners), ID cards must be handed in (a good thing in my view) and you get a call from reception to make sure everything is OK before the lady gets her card back. 

Cleaning - Spotlessly clean, hard working staff who get your room cleaned before noon.…as always guys consider leaving a daily tip for the hard working cleaner.

Security - it is well worth mentioning the very friendly security and night porter staff who welcomes you and guest home later on at night.

Car Parking - Adjacent to the hotel.

Noise - No traffic or music noise whatsoever.

Price - I got this at the price of 1103 THB inc tax (via an Agoda offer)…good value for a modern and room of this size. I also checked out the prices for May (drops to 950). I can also recall last year an Agoda flash sale where rooms were offered at a remarkable 650THB.

Criticisms - Honestly none really. Personally I prefer 5 star boutique type hotels, but in terms of value, quality and location this is brilliant. 

Overall -  This hotel currently represents decent value for a 3 star hotel  - it represents outstanding value if you can get it for under 1000 a night. For that you are getting a large room in a modern well-run hotel with a great pool and outstanding location (if you favour Pratumnak/Jomtien). 

This is not one of those hotels that do tour groups, so no large groups of Indian lads, nor coach loads of Chinese. Aussie, US and European single male guests seemed to dominate.  As always, the booking of this hotel is price dependent. If you can get it around 1,100THB (but look for cheaper after Songkran when we get into low season), then my advice is to put it on your consideration shortlist.

Lottellee Winna Score -7.5/10 (however if cost/value is the main criteria 9/10)

i think, for most 'generally' mongers here, the location is bad.

unless you rent a moto. BUT if i have a moto i also have so much better choice other than this hotel...

In terms of location I make the point in the OP “Note if you want to spend all of your time in central Pattaya, then this wouldn’t be for you”.

I also make the point that I prefer other hotels to the one currently being reviewed (I say that I prefer 5 star boutique hotels). However in terms of the quality/cost ratio the Unique Regency is pretty good IMHO. You say that there are ‘much better’ choices in this area…that’s a useful comment, but it would be more helpful if you would tell us the names of these hotels and why they offer better value and quality.
