The Whisper - a Lottellee Winna Review

Intro - Living up in Issan I make 6-8 one or two week trips a year to Pattaya. I’m blessed with having friends and family who visit me, and on this occasion, I was meeting up with a mate from the UK and we had booked Centra Life hotel for a week. However as I found myself down in Bangkok this weekend, I decided to come to Pattaya a day earlier than planned. I was therefore looking for the veritable one night sleepover, and as I like to try new places, I thought I would try the Whisper hotel.

hotel despite being a city centre hotel, on PA the Whisper has a very low profile… and to be honest, it hasn’t really been on my radar. Hopefully this thread might go some way to putting that right, because I have a lot of good stuff to report about this hotel… and one reservation too.

Location-  The location of this hotel is city centre, but it’s hidden up a mini alleyway off soi Buhakow (heading south on Buhakow turn first right after Holiday Inn Express). You then have 150m walk down a bumpy non- tarmac and unlit lane to the hotel. Alternatively from second road, you can cut through the Avenue, shopping complex and onto soi 15 to access the hotel. Don’t be in any doubt the location is not as good as say Areca, however, in fairness it is not too bad either, although in rainy season, I can imagine the soi getting very muddy at the Buhakow end (although it is fully tarmac at the Avenue soi 15 end). In terms of bus access, you have those that run along both Buhakow and second Road.

Check in - As you approach the hotel you while you really don’t get a ‘wow’ factor in terms of kerb appeal’, that said, the building itself has a sleek and modern look. The door is opened for you and there is no queue at reception. The checkin process is businesslike, quick, easy and efficient. I booked payment in advance with Agoda and wasn’t asked to leave any cash deposit. The staff respectfully request that all ‘additional guests’ (the gals) hand in their ID cards when they are brought back to the room. No joiner fee.

Rooms - The room design and size is outstanding for a hotel in this budget class. Rooms are modern and very spacious at an impressive 41sqm. The room is without doubt the largest you will find in any modern hotel for the money.

The room also has the best closet and drawer space I’ve seen for a while (a real pain as in even the best hotels like Amethyst and Blackwoods all they have is a hanging rail). There is also a safe, large refrigerator and flat screen smart television. For those who need to work there is a desk, and for real relaxation, a good size couch.

There was enough power outlets to charge my devices. The rooms are opened by electronic cards and the key needs to be placed into the holder in your room to power the electricity. My room had a small balcony with table and chairs and views across the city. The bed was large and comfy enough to sleep on. The AC worked well, and the toilet, bathroom and shower room are modern and well designed. Tea, coffee and water in room complimentary.

Room tip - the standard rooms (I think called deluxe) are fine, as always, I request a high floor for a better view and less noise.

Wifi - The WiFi signal quality is outstanding, and no need to log in every day.

Breakfast - TBH I decided that there is just so much choice elsewhere - the Nest on soi Diana serves a nice brekkie.

Facilities - The hotel has a small rooftop swimming pool with jacuzzi, sun loungers and towels. There is I am told a gym (though I didn’t see it). The hotel has two speedy elevators and I never waited. 

Guest Policy - The staff are respectful to any guests you might invite back to your ‘loom’…no guest charges (for one visitor), ID cards must be handed in (a good thing in my view) and you get a call from reception to make sure everything is OK before the lady gets her card back. 

Cleaning - Spotlessly clean, hard working staff.…as always guys consider leaving a daily tip for the hard working cleaner.

Security - it is well worth mentioning the very friendly security and night porter staff who welcomes you and guest home later on at night.

Car Parking - Covered underneath the hotel.

Noise - No traffic or music noise whatsoever, indeed, this is the quietest hotel, I think I’ve ever stayed in.

Price - I got this at the price of 1303 THB inc tax (via an Agoda offer)…good value for a modern and classy room of this size.

Criticisms - Only one, the alleyway entrance from the Buhakow end is a bit dark, unpaved and downmarket, and I guess in the rainy season is susceptible to flooding and mud (though access should be better from the Avenue end).

Overall -  This hotel currently represents decent value in Pattaya for a 3 star hotel  - it represents outstanding value for those who put a premium on having a large modern room. For guys who are less bothered about room size then the likes of the Holiday Inn express round the corner (better location, but room size 50% smaller ) might be a better bet.

A nice theme to this hotel is music - the lifts are decorated with pictures of old style cassette tapes…nice - very different. The rooms carry on this musical theme with the illuminated saxophone 🎷- I guess in honour of the late beloved King Rama IX who enjoyed playing this instrument.

This is not one of those hotels that do tour groups, so no large groups of Indian lads, nor coach loads of Chinese. Aussie, US and European single male guests seemed to dominate.  As always, the booking of this hotel is price dependent. If you can get it around 1,300 THB (but look for cheaper after Songkran when we get into low season), then my advice is to put it on your consideration shortlist.

Lottellee Winna Score -7/10 (however if roomsize is the main criteria 9/10)

Like yourself I have my favourite Gaffs and i often book 2 hotels flitting between the 2 dependant upon Girls I'm seeing and what I'm doing 5555

Very nicely decorated and clean rooms.  Do they have separate shower and tub areas?

A place to consider for future trips.  Would you rate higher in quality and size than Acqua?  I'd really like to try there next time.

No tub, but yes the shower is in a sealed glass unit within the bathroom.

Very different from the Acqua. The Whisper rooms are literally twice the size of the standard rooms in the Acqua, so you get a king size bed in the Whisper, a larger balcony and bathroom, a desk, chair and sofa. Additionally the Whisper is much quieter than the (rear facing) rooms in the Acqua. However I think the Acqua is better located (for both buses and being close to Hemingways eaterie) + the Acqua has more of a 4 star feel about it.

Thanks for the review. I've stayed there a number of times over the years, but have found noise to be an issue from other guests, many Russians and Israelis use this hotel.

From memory I would say ‘medium’. They are certainly not ‘Thai Firm’. Just comfortable.

I found them to be too firm and was sleeping on top of my blanket for some added padding.  I'm used to soft mattresses so I would say they're firm by western standards.

hotel Pro Tip: If anyone finds mattresses too firm in any Thai hotel just ask for a ‘topper’…this is a duvet like extra mini mattress which they will place on top of the existing firm mattress 👍

Looking for up-to-date info. Looking at Google Maps it seems that you can turn left out of the hotel, and then continue to Soi Buakhao?

But if one watching some of the YT videos it seems that the road is blocked just a few seconds from the hotel? Does anyone know?

^ It's a dirt road in that direction but passable unless they have fully restricted it recently.

I was there till late March, the road was blocked just past the hotel for cars so no you could not turn left and drive to soi buakhao, but you could still walk through. There was a building being built so there was some of the workers trucks, cars and scooters parked along the dirt road.

Yes I did like the whisper and enjoyed my stay there for 3 weeks. Great value for money in my opinion. I like the location also, but everyone is different. I like the large rooms which have lots of space. Good bathroom and shower, air-conditioning worked really well. It's quiet there no bar music or people on tours.

As this is the latest updated thread on this hotel.

I thought it was fine all over. The construction on the other side of the road was barely noticable. If the window is closed you can't hear them hammer drill etc.

The aircon is a tad bit loud but very strong.

Pool is nice (chlorinated).

If you have allergies you might feel stuff in your nose, I think it's the cleaning agents used in the bathroom and the cunts smoking a pack in the hallways. Keep the window open an inch and smoke doesn't get pulled in to the room from the hallway.

Keep the window closed when smashing or the kokotel perverts will line up for the show.

I would stay at this hotel again. There is thai food right on the corner,  711 and avenue is 260metres.
