Hi

I'm just waiting on a reply from the Thai embassy, my question is does a Thai citizen need more than six months from expiry date on their passport to return back to Thailand from another country?

Cheers

Generally from what I can see a person only needs to have a valid passport not expired passport to re-enter their own country provided they are travelling on their own country's passport.

In an Australian's case it can expire the day after you return (DFAT website) and I am pretty sure it is the same for other countries!

The six months 'rule' is applied on entry to most countries when visiting as a tourist / business. This is to cover potential problems, such as unexpected health issues etc.

The rule is NOT applied when returning to your own country - where you are a national and passport holder.
