Soi Chaiyapoon, Soi Pothole or Soi Chalermphrakiat?

Recommended Posts

I know it as Soi Chaiyapoon or Soi Pothole but when you look on google maps it has the Thai name of ซอย เฉลิมพระเกียรติ which translates as Soi Chalermphrakiat.

Can anyone shed any light on this. I can understand why it has the nickname Soi Pothole but why is it referred to as Soi Chaiyapoon rather than Soi Chalermphrakiat? Maybe Soi Chaiyapoon is just easier to say or has been renamed?

Yeah, I've heard of few things it's been called. Great fun to be had there though.  😁

Chalermprakiat is actually Third Road. Soi Chayapoon is Chalermprakiat Soi 25.

What he said.

What I find funny is that many Thais have no idea where Soi Chaiyapoon is.... But they know the other 2 names.

Thanks for pointing that out. Indeed it is actually named Chalermphrakiat Soi 25 but Pattaya 3rd Road is so called nearly as far as Jomtiem where it appears to become Chalermphrakiat according to Google. That's not to say Google is correct as it may well be known as Chalermphakriat as well as Pattaya 3rd road locally.

It's a mystery. Maybe it's a name that tourists have given it. It's certainly easier to remember.

My regular Nam driver gik told me that the soi (dirt road) running parallel with Buakhao 15 is "Soi Pothole" to them. She had to take me that way once because of the 15 roadworks shit show. No idea how common it is.

Noticed that some of the mototaxi guys even have "Soi Pothole" on the back of their vests.

Hahahaha yes that little dirt Soi could definitely be described as Pothole.

Most likely they are the ones wearing best sponsored by The Pothole Bar. Seen a few guys on walking St and Soi 15 wearing them too.

Behind the privacy netting in this Street View shot from 2020 there was an illegal establishment that brought about the nickname of Soi Casino.

The taxi vests with Soi Pothole predated the Pothole Bar.

True. Haven't seen one of those ones for ages though.
