Colonoscopy, Gastroscopy thoughts

This topic might be interesting to older forum guys.  Like me, 60++.

I'm a bit tipsy, so best not say much.  Will add more in the clearer light of day.

My point is that these medical procedures are fairly common.  Have an obvious aim of helping you to live longer, not suffer cancer etc.

So that's fine, and the medical details are discussed elsewhere.  Its a bit of a hassle taking laxatives, but all in all the process was not uncomfortable.  I was sedated, 2 hours later went home.  No pain and suffering, good.

But I think there's non-medical issues involved too.  Mental, life affirming issues.  I've not seen this spoken of on here.

Similar to annual HIV test.  You go in and get tested.  But it could be a major, life changing event.  Doctor says, ah, results say you have HIV, colon cancer, major issue.....  Or, you are fine.  Good.

I experienced a kind of panic attack in the night after the colonoscopy.  I never have that.  I was dreaming there was an earthquake, arm shook.  Internet says sedative they used can cause this.  Or dehydration.

Another interesting issue is what thai girls you know reply when you tell them what test you had done. One girl said its strange to put a camera up your bum. 555.  Others pleased results ok, encouraging, want me to be healthy.

Overall, of course, I followed doctors advice and had the procedures as 60+.   About 40k at BPH.   I'd recommend them.  Its good news that I don't have cancer or major issues.  Do have diverticulosis however, still reading about that...

But psychologically I'm not 100% yet.  Should be good news.

I wonder what happened for 2 hours while 6 nurses tended my naked bottom and cameras put in orifices !

I'll get over it !

I'm a 2 holer now.  I enjoy photoing thai girls and their bodies.  Maybe karma that they put a camera in my orifices.  555

I should just be very pleased I don't have cancer.

Anyone have similar thoughts ?

Glad you kept it short. :)

I have a colonoscopy done every 5 years or so. On one examination (15 years back ?) a polop was discovered. It was removed and found to be benign. I am 70+ and might not be here if I did not do things like this.

Understand your concern, since benign, probably you would have been fine. The jury is still out on this medical procedure as the risks of bowel perforation is real and as the number of procedures is large so the statistics are showing that the benefits are not clear.

Exactly why it's a good idea to pay extra for the MRI, which gives much more info. I'll never do the camera again, after 12 times in my 40's due to acute diverticulosis.

I will continue to trust my doctor's recommendations.
