Looking for recommendations for a hotel in central Pattaya 

Midrange with pool

Agreed. You might want to check one of these threads:

Areca Lodge, Page 10, Acqua, Amber, Adelphi, Bay Breeze, Centara, LK Residence ... Lots of reviews on these.

Debua, Blackwoods, Amethyst (pushing "midrange") are all new and excellent.

 

If you want to save money... Travelodge. If you like tiny rooms but want to be able to get a lounge chair every time at a great rooftop pool... Acqua. If you like leaky showers the Holiday Inn Express. If you like a certain kind of guest that are not at all annoying... Sunshine. Amber is also good but the pool isn't on the roof.
