renting in Pattaya on a tourist visa

Hi there,

Im curious to know if anyone has done this. It seems to be a bit risky to commit to a rental, keep your belongings in the apartment knowing that when you re-enter thailand you're not gauranteed to get in, even with the multi entry tourist visa it comes down to the discretion of the immigration officer on that day. I know you can come and go as you please for up to 90 days but if you wanted to base yourself there in Patts, I cant see another way of doing it outside of buying an elite visa or being over 50 for the retirement visa. The hypothetical situation is for someone working FIFO in Australia like myself.

stay within the visa rules and you wont have a problem,

get proper visa, plenty of options on this, education, muai thai visa  etc

If you are paying rent by cash it wont be a problem, even bank transfer will be fine

I have a Problem..... I just can't decide if its a good problem or a bad problem...

You can easily find a rental. Landlords don't really care about your visa status. If you have multiple reentries in a year some immigration official might question you though. There might also be tax implications if you're living in Thailand for longer than 6 months in a calendar year.

I know it's pretty baby, but I didn't take it out for air.

I did the tourist visa thing for around four years before finally realising the anxiety was too much and went Elite. I did a spreadsheet to compare what I was spending on constantly traveling vs biting the bullet. And it really wasn't that much of a difference. The subsequent peace of mind is worth way more.

Issue is those don't exist. Mate of mine stayed here seven years on TRs before finally getting grilled at immigration. Others within one or two.

True. But that's not what the thread is about :)
