I came across this web site which looked official offering a 6 month multi entries.

Is it government approved?

No. It’s just a Bangkok Law firm trying to make money.

You use the official site for visa applications and there’s no reason you can’t do it yourself. It’s pretty straightforward on the whole.

Edit: sorry, just realised you are in Australia. They don’t use the e-visa system yet so you still apply through the Embassy or Consulate.

Do you really need a METV before you apply ? requirements  very  easy now days for both SETV & METV 

A SETV can pretty much get you 5 months but you will 2 extensions in Jomtiem
