In Nov 09 I plan a 10 day trip through Laos, preferrably on an enduro bike, which should have lights and insurance.

 

My questions are:

 

Should I rent the bike in Thailand (e.g. Nong Kai area), cross the Mekong and drive then through Laos or should got first to Vientian and rent it there?

 

Can anyone recommend reputable rental companies, maybe incl. contact details?

 

Is my thai driving license valid in Laos?

You will great diffiiculty in taking a bike out of Thailand unless you own the bike and have all the correct paperwork. Either go with an organised group or find somewhere in Laos to rent from.
